'Vampire' woman gets ‘horns’ implanted
Maria Hose Cristerna, a mum of four from Mexico, showed off her unusual looks at a tattoo exhibition in Monterrey in California recently. She had her body transformed as a reaction to enduring years of abuse at home.

The striking look is completed by specially shaped vampire 'fang' teeth, fake eye colours and massive earrings – but she's not finished yet! The 35-year-old claims that she wants even more horns implanted.

'Tattoos were a form of liberation for me – my way of being immortal - and the horns I have are a symbol of strength and were implanted without anaesthetic,' she told The Sun.

'I had the fangs done because I loved vampires as a little girl and I changed the colour of my eyes so they were how I really wanted them to be.'

40. I simply made an observation. The article refers to her
experience of abuse. Her own statements point to choices made in order to survive. As a survivor of abuse myself, I chose to withdraw for a period of time. I know other survivors who donned bristly armor, perhaps not physically as she did but bristly armor nonetheless.

Not certain why you reacted to my observation in this way though.

My mom used to ask me the same thing (I do NOT look anywhere near as unique is this woman)...I told her every time that if I lived to be 80, I'd be happy no matter what I looked like.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 06:46 PM by Raine
who knows how much worse it will be in the future. The way things are going now I often wonder if people who are too different will be hunted down and locked away. Yeah I know I'm a pessimist some days more than others. :-( I like to be different too, that's why I worry about these things.

30. Well, in a professional sense, you'd never know I had ink...
and I like to keep it that way, so I only tattoo places I can easily hide.
But yeah, I get what you're saying. I hope we don't end up with a V for Vendetta-like society (sorry, first movie that popped in my head) in which anyone "alternative" gets locked up. Hell, it's happened in the past in Latin America. Gay? We'll target you as a pedophile and lock you away. Leftist? Eliminated.
Eep.

17. Yeah, it does.
I can totally relate to having a fantasy about being a tiger or a vampire. That's just another Friday night (or Thursday morning) at my house! To altering one's face permanently? No, I can't go there. But other people do, and I'll fight for them having that choice. Who does it hurt?

She's certainly not doing this to be conventionally attractive by patriarchal standards!

but shouldn't she be thinking of her kids.. I'm sure this is an embarrassment to them, when other children tell them what a freak their mom is..

And she might regret this later in life.. has that ever crossed her mind?
