More college graduates are delinquent on repaying student loans
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 08:19 PM by marmar

Reporting from Washington — Tasha Younger has been one of the hidden statistics in the growing number of graduates and former students overburdened with education loans.

The 38-year-old mother of two — still trying to pay off her loans a decade after quitting nursing school — has been delinquent on her monthly payments but never in default.

Statistics typically show how many students simply fail to make payments. But a recent survey has found that for every person who defaults on student loans, at least two more are like Younger: late or short on payments.

In Younger's case, she was late for a few months and then was able to make interest-only payments for a while, which extended the term of the loans. ............(more)

3. I say we abolish all student loan debts and may state university
education free for everyone. Society benefits from an educated populace far more than it does from an uneducated one.

5. It isn't that expensive either

If you have 15 million people in college, and give them each $6000 for annual tuition and fees that is 90 billion a year. Right now in this recession that is a big number but it isn't a huge number.

However if you are giving out free education I think something other than academics in pursuit of a degree would be better. What I'd love to see is free community education courses in subjects like critical thinking, rhetoric, debate, interpersonal communication, international events, introspection, home/auto maintenance, health maintenance, etc. That could be done fairly cheaply and available to all who want in.

4. Eliminating Student Loans from Bankruptcy....
thank you Joe Biden (2005) was the noose around the neck of Americans who believed in HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a joke......HOPE.

We are so over.....such toast. Done. Burnt. Declined....as in Empire.

I wouldn't advise anyone to go into debt for education.......just go to the Library and learn like Abraham Lincoln did. Get it?

7. Aggree with what you are saying -- except I feel the need to
Point out - in many areas of the nation, the libraries are all but shuttered up.
