Rush Limbaugh gets schooled (on air) on the practical application of CAPITALISM
it is his link so link on it if you want. The caller made some excellent points. Pillhead is so "intellectual dishonest" (as George Will likes to say) that he can't understand it.

Caller Claims Capitalism is Slavery

CALLER: Right, but while the cost of living's going up, he sold his people down so that way self can be self-absorbed. He gets to be fulfilled, but his employees don't.

RUSH: I don't... Where did you learn this? This is the most... I have yet to hear this. This is the first time I have heard this explanation of capitalism and rich people and why they're really evil: Once they get what they want, they quit and their employees just die.

.
.
.

RUSH: Stagnation only occurs in liberalism. Stagnation only occurs where entrepreneurism is not allowed!

CALLER: Well, if you're saying that --

RUSH: Where did you learn this? This is pathetic.

CALLER: -- you're basing that on the socialism model --

RUSH: You are wounding me.

CALLER: -- there's no cost of living in socialism. If you add cost of living into capitalism, it's no more than slavery.

1. they're both wrong.
Neither one seems to understand a thing about capitalism. The caller for example, is wrong in claiming entrepreneurs create jobs. No employer has ever created a job, in the history of capitalism. Demand for goods and services creates jobs, that's Basic Economics 101.

3. You are wrong too. Demand is created by entrepreneurs in many cases.
Gates, etc. did not invent the PC because people were demanding that in their lives.

4. Efficiency is always "in demand". Gates and many, many others created products
that filled that demand. It's not like gates created a product all by himself, the computer was years in the making.

6. People did not buy PCs for "efficiency".
Business did. People bought computers because a demand was created for them with video games and free sex sites. No one buys a computer because they want to be able to put their receipts in order.

11. Actually it was word processors and spreadsheets ...
... games came third. Home computers were well established before there was an internet.

12. People bought PCs because they became affordable through mass production.
As for the internet, that came about because the pentagon "demanded" it.

5. Gates didn't invent shit.
Altair Basic was his last real invention (and I bet less than 1% of DU even knows what that is). His main claim to fame is licensing and marketing, and convincing people they should pay for things that are traditionally free.

You want to see where innovation happens in software, take a look at open source. Lots of work to be done, lots of demand. Not lots of money, not massive media moguls, but millions employed, solving billions of tiny demands.

13. if there was no demand, Gates could not sell shit.
I don't know where you people get this stuff. If Gates came up with the brilliant idea of selling shit pies, you think he'd sell any if there was no demand?

10. I'm a small subcontractor
I work for larger builders... who I guess would be called entrepeneurs. Most of them are decent guys, and they work seven days a week. Reason number one, why I never expanded my business... I like my free time. Plus the margins on any job are extremely tight... which is why they all work so much. Not my thing. I always tell people, if they're trying to get hired and want an edge... call the big boss on a sunday evening at his office. That's where he will be.
