Holy Shite that's some serious damage in Missouri
Hope DUers are safe!!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42725966/ns/weather/
A powerful storm packing heavy rain, hail and tornadoes pummeled the St. Louis area late Friday, blowing out glass at the airport and overturning cars in the garage, authorities said.

At least five people were treated for minor injuries at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, said airport spokesman Jerry Lea. Four were taken to the hospital.

Unconfirmed tornadoes were reported near New Melle and Dardenne Prairie in St. Charles County. St. Charles County Sheriff's Lt. Craig McGuire said there were early reports of at least 20 homes damaged in the county.

1. Seems like someday, the military will have all it can do to protect us from
nature and nothing more.

6. Don't you find it unusual that they aren't striking Iraq, nor are the quakes, hurricanes
or asteroids???

10. So, if we had a greater military presence in tornado alley...

13. We'd have more helping hands doing constructive things. I could see in the
near future that we will be looking at shipping containers for housing as was recently posted and considering this on a much smaller and less ostentatious scale.

2. Welcome to the future
Global climate change will only increase the incidence with which people get pummeled by 'hundred-year storms' (or whatever colorful euphemism they use to describe severe weather outside their experience). We're going to see this expand to areas previously considered unlikely locations for severe weather as well.

5. Its weather
Typical for the mid-west in spring. Its no more indicative of global warming than sub-zero temperatures in December.

7. True but 2011 is already a record year
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ac/20110417/tr_ac/8311891_tax_weekend_tornado_outbreak_may_set_records
<snip>
A violent round of storms that started on Thursday and culminated on Saturday spawned hundreds of tornadoes and caused at least 48 deaths. This tornado outbreak may set records with 241 tornadoes reported so far. According to the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center, this three-day round of storms saw hundreds of tornadoes, hail, high winds and plenty of rain.

The SPC preliminary reports showed 107 tornadoes on Saturday, 113 on Friday and 23 on Thursday. Those numbers continue to change as National Weather Service officials assess damage left by the storms and the current total reportedly stands at more than 240. Tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Illinois, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. Considering the average number of tornadoes for April stands at 163, April 2011 is already on track to be a record-setting year with more bad weather on track for the coming week.

8. We had 3 local tornadoes, very rare.
That tells me something.
Keeping a close eye out this season, we are.

:eyes:

Do you have any further stake this climate-change denial schtick, other than being able to say, 'told ya so!'?

3. MSNBComcast just said parts of the airport would be closed for days.
Terminal C is mostly American Airlines and has the most damage. Another terminal that houses Southwest looks in better shape, and they might be able to open sooner and share that terminal.

18. Disturbing
Not just the tornado, which was clearly disturbing to the people in the airport. It is disturbing to see their fear and peril.

Most disturbing for me as a removed witness is watching these people in fear and peril while the news ticket keeps scrolling. As if the human drama they are showing us is not enough, does not demand our full attention for even just a few minutes, a few moments.

Just another story to keep the audience watching so we can sell them brand x.

Sorry if I'm being a little cynical and maudlin.
