"Budgets are more than a collection of numbers. They are a statement of our values." |

The Peoples Budget http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=70http://grijalva.house.gov/uploads/The%20CPC%20FY2012%20Budget.pdfThis needs to be pushed as the path to the 2012 elections and future of America. Not perfect, but such a striking contrast with the Ryan disaster will be easy to explain to the public. Here's Rachel's coverage last night... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/(on edit) Here's an excerpt from the pdf... http://imgur.com/aT80H>

1. Let me count some of the ways budgets of the past 30 years, in general, make a statement (reflect) |
|
our values: (1) First and foremost, the welfare of and for our uber-wealthy and large international corporations is far more important than the general welfare (the overall welfare of our nation and its people); (2) The welfare of the MIC is infinitely more important than the general welfare and prodigious sums will be expended in treasure and blood to keep us safe from terror (read exert global hegemony) whereas countless thousands will be left to suffer and die from lack of proper medical care, all the while our national infrastructure crumbles; (3) Capitalism will be allowed to run amok largely unfettered by governmental interference, control, or oversight, their profits will be privatized, their losses will be socialized (borne by the taxpayers) and egregiously blatant criminality will not be prosecuted to the full extent of the law; and (4) When 1, 2, and 3 have created a concentration of wealth among a very few and the worst economy, jobs market, housing market, income inequality, standard of living, and quality of life in several generations, don't prime the pump, but rather slash promised (and pre-paid) benefits and all other social spending, further gorge the MIC, and give further tax cuts to those in #1 above. :patriot:

2. Thanks for this excellent post. I think you've described the Ryan and other recent... |
|
...budgets quite accurately.
Therefore I plan to blatantly and shamelessly post it wherever I think it belongs.
Thanks,
Scuba

3. A true statement that should make every American think twice. When |
|
you look at that pie chart of expenditures - the military gets over half. Obviously we are either very paranoid or we are blood thirsty warmongers.

4. I agree with Rachel. The Progressive Budget is a winner. |
|
And deserves review alongside the others.
