Our Bastards
Our Bastards
Yes, this is part of the media painting the great Saint McCain http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2011_04/029082.php as heroic no matter what he does, but it's also part of the media's willingness to follow along with whoever our government designates as the official Hitler of the week. That Gadhafi has gone from Hitler, to trusted ally and recipient of lovely arms shipments, and then back to Hitler so fast is interesting but not surprising.

2. Gaddafi is Hitler to the Libyans
Edited on Sat Apr-23-11 11:24 AM by MedleyMisty
And I care a lot more about what they think than about what the American government thinks. Actually it's been fairly obvious that the West had no real interest in actually taking Gaddafi out, but we're pressuring them and making them help take out one of their own.

By the way - buying into the anti-Libyan propaganda is playing right into the hands of people who want control over Libya, who don't want the Libyans to have power over their own government, who want the oil for themselves.

Also, it makes no sense. If the Libyans do not actually want or deserve freedom, then you must say the same of Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen, etc. Either it's all a conspiracy or it's not a conspiracy and Arabs are not American puppets and are capable of living for themselves and deciding for themselves that they don't want to live under dictators and rising up to change their government.

I know that may be hard for Americans, who like living under dictators and who would never go out into the streets and demand democracy, to believe. But that just shows that Arabs are awesome and Americans suck.
