Radiation levels in city tap water detected but still within safe limits

April 22, 2011

EAST LIVERPOOL - Recorded levels of radioactivity in East Liverpool drinking water is no cause for concern, according to city officials.

The levels have been attributed to the Japanese nuclear power plant disaster and the aftermath and not connected with the nearby Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station owned by FirstEnergy. snip

"There's basically nothing you can do about it anyway," Disch said. "There's no way to treat the water, but I don't really expect it to become an issue anyway."

--------------------------

Does that mean they probably wouldn't tell us if it was above "safe", levels if nothing can be done about it anyway?

I have a niece with two little kids who is currently really sick with MS. Never smoked, ate good, exercised a lot. She was 6 years old when Chernobyl blew up. She has been going through hell for several years now. We will never know if that had something to do with it.

2. Detectable doesn't necessarily equal dangerous
we are exposed to radiation constantly. I don't think it's time to panic just yet.

Flying is likely a far greater risk than fallout.

3. OK, but a complete lack of radiation in our drinking water is 100% safe.
Sorry, but nobody is buying your BS.

4. It's also impossible to have zero radiation in your drinking water
And it's spelled "science" not "BS".

If you want to never be exposed to radiation go live in a lead box and never eat and then still fail because your body generates a bit on it's own.

7. Like the difference in standing next to a hot barbecue pit and eating a burning piece of coal
Thanks for mentioning that.

Look at the chart I posted for some comparison.

6. No one is panicking
But don't flight crews have a higher incidence of cancer then the general population?

Seems like I read that somewhere years ago.

11. Thank you for posting this!!
All people want is answers to a simple question, "How can radionuclides be removed from water?' and we get treated like children.

'Don't worry about it', and 'there's nothing you can do anyway'--are answers that are really getting old.
