Just got a strange phone call. I do not and never have done business
with Sovereign Bank. Not even sure how they spell it.
The message was: Hello, this is Sovereign Bank. Your Debit card has been locked. Push one and you will be connected with our security department.
I hung up. What's with that?

2. First of all... LOVE the bunny!
Sounds like the call was a sort of "phishing" expedition. You call, they "verify" numbers/info, etc. Not cool. Good thing you hung up.

3. Phishing for fools, I suspect.
You should report it to your local authorities.

4. sounds like a phishing call
even if it was a wrong number they shouldn't have told you over the phone that your card was locked. At most they should have told you their was a problem with your account and to call or go into your branch or check your messages online.

If you are bored and want something to do, look up the real Sovereign Bank, call them up and tell them calls like this are being made in their name. They should pass the info on to appropriate people to investigate.

6. Exactly.
No bank ever robocalls you when your card is locked. They just lock it. Or if there's a question they will call you directly from the security department with a real person.

It's phishing pure and simple.

14. Yep. Or else a human comes on the line...
and asks for the number.

I'd be all, "So, YOU must have the number...instead of asking me, why don't YOU tell me what my number is..."

8. I got the same call (three times) thus far.
I have one creditor, and they know better than to call me.

12. Smart move. I've had my card phished online and the bank just locked it--
as they should.

They called me shortly afterward to confirm if I'd made the purchases in Florida and Texas--of course I hadn't and they credited me back, issued me a temp ATM card and reissued my card ASAP. .

15. Phishing
It is a growing problem via email, SMS, and phone. Crooks send out mass emails or text messages that look like they came from a bank (or other business) and asks you to log into your account online (that isn't really your bank's website) or call a phone number (that isn't really your bank's phone number) in order to get your account number/card number/login credentials. At first they were pretty blatant scams--saying they lost your account information and needed you to confirm it (yes people fall for this) but now have become a little more sophisticated.

I have no idea who was actually calling you.

17. It's probably an attempt to steal info.
In some way, shape or form. If they call enough people, they will get plenty who do have a Sovereign debit card.

You should report this to your local state. Some state office dataz below in link:

18. That's a phishing scam. They are fishing for people stupid enough
to give them personal credit info. Then guess what happens?
