Real World Reality Check for Republican Legislation |
I keep seeing in the press and on right wing news outlets the discussion of Republican policies endless tax breaks for the rich, privatization of social security, ending medicare, etc. in the terms abstract political philosophy, personal responsibility, liberty and freedom, etc. In practical real world however what their policies will lead to is YOUR SPOUSE'S MOTHER IN LAW COMING TO LIVE WITH YOU!!!
Yes, that's right. Your mother in law coming to live with you forever! Instead of the government picking up the tab for grandma it's now going to be you! Forget about that fishing boat you've had your eye on or that tropical island vacation. That money will now be earmarked for fixing up the spare room and over priced pharmaceuticals. I'm surprised nobody has caught on to this fact or exploited yet. A simple slogan could be, "Vote Republican if you want your mother in law to live with you".

1. You mean your mother-law, siblings, grown children etc. who are down on |
their luck or sick and can't afford their own place. Sounds icky to me and I actually get along with my family....what a drag for those who have conflict-filled families! I have lived with family to help care for sick family members, but it's definitely a different situation when it's a choice and not a necessity.

4. look, government didn't pick up the tab for granny or your mother in law |
what we had were programs that enabled those that didn't make more than a barely livable wage to enjoy things like a little pension later in life, the availablility of a healthcare program that allowed them to live a while longer, programs that helped with heating oil in cold winters and fans in hot summers. These were not free programs handed out by a benevolent government. They were paid into and for by the same folks that needed them. Sadly, somne of our politicians decided to hand out money to many that never did contribute and to others that didn't need that help.

5. By those who did not contribute are you talking about disabled |
children who will never work? That was FDR's idea. He knew what it meant to be disabled. As to living with a member of your family - that is already happening. One part of our family has 3 generations living in a four bedroom house. I live with my grandson who is in college - we share costs. this is not because there is no social security but because of low wage jobs that do not pay enough so we can live separately. Damn good thing our family pretty much all get along.
