33. Usually, it's bored, stupid kids.
They need to have schools educate them about how this kills people. No kid wants someone's death or disfigurement on their conscience for the rest of their lives.

It happens too often.

58. It would be nice if they set up some cameras to catch the culprits before more people get killed.
Of course, unlike red light cameras they won't get any revenue from them.

Some overpasses have a big fence along both sides to prevent stuff like this.

12. Wow. People die that way. You're lucky.
When I was in college, the kids in the neighborhood used to throw snowballs at cars from an overpass right outside of our campus. One year they put rocks in the snowballs and a driver was killed. They never did catch the kids.

53. And that's kind of where the problem is, and why it bothers me, at least.
OP had a brick come through his windshield. That's a possibly horrific situation to be in. There was nothing political about the statement. I am grateful that OP is okay. Now I will move on to other threads that may, or may not, deal with the politics that aren't being spoken about in this thread. :)

35. Ugh!!! So GLAD you are okay....
You know, people get killed and disfigured through these mindless acts every year.
It always seems to happen in the spring/summer when kids get out of school.
I think they are too dumb, for lack of a less offensive term, to know what damage they can do with a rock/brick.
Glad you called it in, about all that you can do.
I know I'll be more alert the next month or so as kids get cut loose from class, though I know it can happen any time of year.
Once again, you are really fortunate to escape this uninjured. Happy for that, at least!

49. I was just wondering that very same thing
I mean, most behaviors are ultimately explicable. Particularly if this sort of behavior is happening often enough that some cities, as another posted said, are erecting fences to prevent it, that would seem to suggest that it's not some isolated case of some individual mentally ill person doing it. So what's generating this impulse? Boredom? Rage? Towards whom and why? Perhaps this is symptomatic of something we need to learn from. I don't know, maybe this reflects inadequate parental care, or inadequate opportunities for young people to spend their time more productively, or an inadequate moral compass, or, I don't know, something. If it's occurring frequently, there must be a reason.

Here in San Diego they just arrested a guy in his fifties for shooting at cars. The cops had an easy time finding him because he'd been arrested a few months ago for throwing rocks off an overpass.

Glad you're OK, and hopefully your insurance will take care of the damage.
