Amsterdam planning for 750 electric charging stations soon (125 just this year)

Amsterdam's ambitious plan to not have a single internal combustion engine vehicle within the city by 2040 is one step closer to reality now that Dutch energy utility Essent, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RWE AG, has been asked to install at least 125 charging stations by mid-2011 and possibly up to 750 charging points sometime in the future.

Amsterdam City Council has ambitious environmental targets and says that at least 10,000 electric vehicles will be in use throughout the city by 2015. Amsterdam already has approximately 100 public charging points, making it one of Europe's most plug-in vehicle-ready cities. Peter Terium, chief executive officer of Essent, had this to say of Amsterdam's request for chargers:

4. the Dutch already use as many alternatives as possible

I have a very good friend that lives near Amsterdam. He bought a new car several years ago and it runs on natural gas. He fills it at a natural gas filling station. He uses NO oil and this was several years ago as I state - like around 2002 or so when I bought my new car and we were comparing notes.

Why can't we do this too? One reason: GREED AND BIG OIL!!!!!!!

9. My Podunk town has two charging stations

Up at the brand new train station, out in the brand new empty parking lot, adjacent to the unused, unscheduled, bus stop. Too bad the train doesn't even make a stop in town. Would have, could have, should have.
