If the American people could come up with a budget? |
|
Edited on Sun Apr-24-11 09:41 AM by kentuck
First of all, they would put a windfall profits tax on the price of gasoline. Anything above $3 per gallon would be taxed at 100%
Also, they would increase taxes on the wealthy. They would return to the top tax rate when Ronald Reagan took office. That would be 50%. The 39% tax rate from the Clinton Administration is too low to make up for huge changes in the budget since 2001.
They would budget for an end to the wars in the Middle East. We do not have the time or the money to intervene in every dictatorship in that part of the world. Those people will have to sort out their own problems. We should start withdrawing from Afghanistan and Iraq immediately.
Furthermore, they would whittle down the expensive and intrusive Homeland Security Department. They would cut their budget by 50% next year. They would also vote to do away with the searches of everyone that boards a plane. That is a waste of time and money.
And, they would take the cap off Social Security "taxes" and make it a flat tax on everyone. So long as it is spent as general revenue, it is only fair that everyone be taxed at the same rate.
The budget would be balanced and running a surplus in less than ten years.

The military could be cut by 50% starting immediately.
Also, the employers of this country should be jawboned into treating their employees better. For thirty years, they have kept almost all the wealth from the productivity of their workers and gave very little back to their employees. This is nothing but greed and they should be called on it. They should be shamed in public.

2. In time of war, there could be NO profits made by the war machine. |
|
It used to be that way, it should be again.

7. Do you know what you are talking about? |
|
It is spent as general revenue already. It goes into the general revenue budget to help keep the deficit lower or it would be much worse. Please explain what you mean?

Do you really want to pay off Bush's wars and taxbreaks for the wealthy with funds that YOU PAY into your old age retierment account? Don't ask me anymore questions.

13. You are paying for taxbreaks and wars, etc... |
|
with your Social Security "retirement". They borrowed it from you. I suppose you do not want them to pay you back. Obviously, you are very well read on the subject and I will not bother you with any more questions.

4. Kinda depends upon which people. |
|
Keep in mind that our budgets are drawn up by representatives elected by the people. We're getting what we asked for. If not, why do we keep electing them?

6. If the American people like you were to come up with a budget, it might look like that.... |
|
however, if American people like teabaggers were to come up with a budget, I suspect it would look very different.

8. According to most polls... |
|
Democrats, Repubs, and Independents all agree that taxes should be raised on the wealthy and that Medicare should be saved. How should we interpret that? They don't know what they are voting for??

15. Because all of their options serve the same masters and seldom get to even be options if they don't |

The real government is not up for election.
The only possible hope for electoral solutions is if the people see through the sham and refuse to elect "viable" candidates.

Congressional Caucus budget. Have you heard of that one? Yeah, most people haven't.
