Okay. Let’s talk about the (President) Trump insanity

In reality, any one of us has a better chance of becoming president than Donald Trump. Most of us are more intelligent than he is. Most of us have a better grasp of what takes place on Earth than he does. And most of us have a far better understanding of the human species. (All we're lacking is a few billion dollars.)

But what if the totally incredible were to happen? What if by some twist of fate that defied universal odds, this incredible asshole ended up in the Oval Office. Were this to happen, my first instinct would be to commit seppuku if I had the nerve to do so.

But let me get to the point. We imbeciles have let thugs like Trump, the Republican Party, their Tea Bagger attack dogs, and their corporate owners, get away with everything for far too long. Whether out of stupidity or apathy, we have let a greedy minority rape, pillage and plunder us. And it’s because we don't or won’t fight back. We’re playing by some set of outmoded “rules” that stopped applying decades ago.

None of us can do much on our own. But we can sure as hell demand that our “leaders” lead. Either that, or let them know we’re throwing the game and sitting out the next election.

Sure, that will fuck us permanently. But isn’t that where we're headed anyhow?

1. Personally I'd prefer Trump to Reagan or Bush.

I don't think he would have been as bad for the country as either of those guys, Bush especially.

With Reagan and especially Bush I thought the country had gone off it's rails. So I don't give the country much credit for staying out of crazy territory.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, could very well be a latter-day Caligula. He's just smart enough, egotistical enough, and self-indulgent enough to bring true evil down upon us all.

2. While I don't think Trump is really running, I'm enjoying the ride.

He is pulling the republican field towards the rights as the country is moving left and that can only be a good thing.

Unfortunately it is still pretty early and if he announces that he won't be running whenever this show is over (June?) there will still be plenty of time for the distortion he causes to dissipate for the most part. None the less it seems like at least one member of the nutty right will use the same playbook to make the Republican nomination process look like clown college graduation ceremony.

4. He may not really be running (at present).

But, as H.L. Mencken said, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people." If Trump gets it into his head that there are enough idiots out there who would vote for him, his faux "presidential run" could turn into a real run.

Then again, I laughed my ass off when they said Reagan would run for President someday. When he became governor of California, I wrote it off as an aberration of those nutty Californians.

I laughed when Bush the younger was interested in the Presidency, too. I don't laugh any more.

I have always worked hard to get Democrats elected. Nowadays, when I hear about these so-called novelty candidates, I only work harder.

I think you may be right about the Caligula comparison. That is how he runs his business empire. He will get away with whatever he can.

And can you imagine him in the White House, with his trophy wife, number four or five, and his arrogant grown children?

6. Trump is an entertainment and a distraction. He'll make Romney look more

reasonable by contrast. I think the Repubs are determined to run Romney.

9. What seems to be forgotten when we start blaming ourselves for getting screwed

is that billionaires decide who gets the attention in the media. Plenty of people are demanding that our leaders lead. But the people getting the media attention are Sarah Palin and now Donald Trump.

In a country as large as this one the media has a lot of power. I remember the multi city marches protesting the future Iraq war and the media ignored us while Bush called the millions of people who went to march a 'focus' group. I also remember the media's brazen complicity in the march to war without a single anti-war voice.

How is all that our fault?

to declare to run for president.

11. I remember in the late eighties some group had a Gorbachev look a like walking

around Manhattan, by one of Trump's properties, and he came running out of his building shaking Gorbachev's hand and really was excited at having him there until some guy came up to Trump and told him it was a look a like and it wasn't really him. The look on his face, it was priceless.

Does anyone remember that?
