Japanese men’s magazine investigates ‘rumor’ that capital may be moved from Tokyo due to radiation
A recent issue of the somewhat disreputable Shukan Jitsuwa looked into a “rumor” that said the capital may be moved to the Kansai region due to the continuing threat of radiation in the eastern part of Japan. The exodus will be spearheaded by the private sector it said, mainly foreign companies but also firms that were born in Kansai but which had over time moved their headquarters to Tokyo. Jitsuwa said that Osaka governor Toru Hashimoto is excited about the possibility, hinting at a rivalry between him and Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara, who has never taken the idea of relocation seriously.

Because it was published in Jitsuwa, many won’t take the article seriously, either. However, the earthquake of March 11 reminded everyone just how vulnerable Tokyo is to disaster. <...>

On April 14, Sankei Shimbun reported on a bipartisan meeting of national politicians in the Diet to set up fukutoshin (auxiliary capitals) that can take over if Tokyo is hit by a major natural disaster or terrorist attack. <...>

But while there is certainly a need to have government functions reproduced somewhere outside of Tokyo, there are some people who believe it is not enough. <...>

6. I believe the capitol was once in Kyoto. IIRC.
That might be far enough.

But, they could move it anywhere these days.

7. You are correct, the shogunate was in kyoto
People forget the history of Japan is LONG.

There were other historic capitals as well.

10. The NE is WAY more accurate, don't make fun of them
Published photos of former Senator Gary Hart frolicking with his mistress — then 29-year old model Donna Rice — in the Bahamas, derailed the Democratic hopeful’s 1988 run for the White House.

Unearthed photos of O.J. Simpson wearing a pair of Bruno Magli at a 1993 Buffalo Bills football game contradicted earlier testimony he gave that he never owned a pair of the high-quality Italian loafers. The white glove might not have fit, but the Juice’s shoe sure matched the infamous bloody footprint found at the murder scene of his former wife Nicole Brown.

In 2001, damning evidence exposed Rev. Jesse Jackson to be a philanderer who fathered an illegitimate child with staffer Karin Stanford two years earlier;

To the envy of top 25 dailies like the Los Angeles Times or the Chicago Tribune, dogged, old-fashioned detective work by Enquirer reporters exposed 2008 presidential candidate John Edwards to be just another pathetic and mendacious adulterer who fathered a love child with Rielle Hunter; and,

In November 2009, the Enquirer topped its Edwards’ coverage with the stunning revelation that golfer Tiger Woods frequently stepped out on his wife Elin with a bevy of alleged mistresses, from a cocktail waitress to a porn star.
