There are probably many who wonder why CNN would choose to give twelve minutes of airtime to the widely discredited Orly Taitz. While most of Taitz’s wild claims have been disposed of here and elsewhere, Donald Trump has certainly proven that Birthers are good for business, media-wise.

... Stick with the segment until the end, though. It’s worth it to hear King apologetically explain the segment with a line that absolutely has to go on t-shirts in the CNN gift shop: “Our job is not to cover just things that we know to be true…”

This is what we've been up against and we're still trying our best to reason with these sociopaths. Rove is correct in this regard, this approach will never work with people like Rove and today's Republican Party. In essence, Rove's statement is more a confession of guilt than a boast.

13. I had a similar thought earlier today.

We really should just come back to this with claims that Obama was born in a manger, and several rainbows heralded his birth. The reason was because the dark witch Bavmorda knew his birth was prophesy, and that he would bring about the end of her reign, so she ordered all newborn babies in the area killed. Luckily Obama escaped by being floated down a river in his cradle, where he was raised by a small village of hobbits.

Showing them the birth certificate doesn't work, so what the hell, right?

6. They keep complaining about no "long form" birth certificate

This document is the property of the state or county and is not released to an individual. In certain circumstances (such as adoptees, since it shows the actual parents as opposed to their birth document which shows the adoptive parents ) an individual can show up at the government office and view the document, but they can't copy it or receive a copy of it.

So no one has a copy of their "long form" birth certificate, nor can they get it. All this complaining about "no long form certificate" serves to show off their degree of ignorance about the matter.

9. A small correction: There's been no court ruling as far as I know

Courts have ruled mostly on the issue of standing. While some judges have expressed considerable skepticism about the "evidence" offered by the birthers, I don't think any of the decisions have turned on the merits.

My personal opinion is that the Constitution empowers Congress to count the electoral votes and declare the winner. The logical interpretation is that assessing whether a particular candidate is eligible is up to Congress, not the courts. Back in 2008, the birthers tried to get Congress to refuse to seat Obama. They were disappointed when not even one Republican Senator or Representative would go out on that limb.

A child with one citizen and one non-citizen parent, if born outside the United States, would be a citizen at birth only if the U.S. citizen parent had lived in the U.S. for at least five years after reaching the age of 14. Therefore, the citizen parent had to be at least 19 years old. Ann Dunham was still only 18 when she gave birth to her son, Barack Obama. Therefore, IF she had for some inexplicable reason flown halfway around the world to give birth in Kenya, far from friends and family, instead of in the excellent medical facilities in Honolulu, then her son would not have been a citizen at birth.

The law has since been changed but the change wasn't retroactive.
