Updated overview of the mounds of evidence for Obama's US citizenship
Obama was clearly born in the United States, here is how we know:

  • A Certificate of Live Birth.
  • Newspaper birth announcements from the time of his birth
  • Computer generated birth index listing from the Department of Health in Hawaii
  • Court rulings

  • A Certificate of Live Birth from the state of Hawaii

For more on its authenticity see here:
    http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

Newspaper birth announcements from the time of his birth from both The Honolulu Advertiser and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin:

Computer generated birth index listing from the Department of Health in Hawaii

"In this April 20, 2011 photo, the name Barack Hussain Obama II is seen highlighted in a computer generated birth index from 1960-1964 in a Hawaii State government binder held at the State Department of Health in Honolulu." -MARK NIESSE, AP.

Court rulings have found no merit to claims that he was not born in America:

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA
    http://www.paed.uscourts.gov/documents/opinions/08D1256P.pdf

"Plaintiff ventures into the unreasonable..." "Plaintiff’s attempt to use these statutes to gain standing to
pursue his Natural Born Citizen Clause claim are frivolous and not worthy of discussion..."

UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/13033400/Dismiss-Memorandum

"...the accompanying order of dismissal requires Mr. Hemenway to show cause why he has not violated Rules 11(b)(1) and 11(b)(2) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and why he should not be required to pay reasonable attorneys fees and other expenses to counsel for the defendants."

Let's hope the Republican birthers keep going, their foaming at the mouth only makes for good contrast with serious/reasonable individuals and leaders.

    4. Apparently she got 12 minutes on CNN just this month
    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnns-john-king-manages-to-out-crazy-birther-queen-orly-taitz-in-wild-interview/

In a Friday appearance on CNN’s John King USA, Birther queen Orly Taitz rolled over the eponymous host, and beleaguered guest Cornell Belcher, like that boulder in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Taitz emptied clip after clip of false and unsubstantiated claims at a helpless John King, but just when all seemed lost, King fought back with his own daisy-cutter of crazy, suggesting that President Obama has been rebutting Birthers in code.

There are probably many who wonder why CNN would choose to give twelve minutes of airtime to the widely discredited Orly Taitz. While most of Taitz’s wild claims have been disposed of here and elsewhere, Donald Trump has certainly proven that Birthers are good for business, media-wise.

... Stick with the segment until the end, though. It’s worth it to hear King apologetically explain the segment with a line that absolutely has to go on t-shirts in the CNN gift shop: “Our job is not to cover just things that we know to be true…”

    5. I think one of the judges fined her 10k for bringing frivolous lawsuits.
That might have shut her up to some degree.

    3. On huge difference between Republicans and Democrats
Edited on Sun Apr-24-11 04:53 PM by nonperson
Or Conservatives and Liberals (if you still consider the Democratic Party liberal) this one huge difference is:

If the tables were turned and Democrats came up with some ridiculous shit like these birthers, the Republican Party wouldn't even honor it with a response, other than to demand that Democrats universally condemn the birthers within their midst.

We take the time to repeatedly offer these lunatics facts that they'll never, ever accept. They aren't fact based.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/17/magazine/17BUSH.html

"In the summer of 2002, after I had written an article in Esquire that the White House didn't like about Bush's former communications director, Karen Hughes, I had a meeting with a senior adviser to Bush. He expressed the White House's displeasure, and then he told me something that at the time I didn't fully comprehend -- but which I now believe gets to the very heart of the Bush presidency.

The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

The senior adviser to Bush referred to in this article is generally understood to be Karl Rove.

This is what we've been up against and we're still trying our best to reason with these sociopaths. Rove is correct in this regard, this approach will never work with people like Rove and today's Republican Party. In essence, Rove's statement is more a confession of guilt than a boast.

    13. I had a similar thought earlier today.
We really should just come back to this with claims that Obama was born in a manger, and several rainbows heralded his birth. The reason was because the dark witch Bavmorda knew his birth was prophesy, and that he would bring about the end of her reign, so she ordered all newborn babies in the area killed. Luckily Obama escaped by being floated down a river in his cradle, where he was raised by a small village of hobbits.

Showing them the birth certificate doesn't work, so what the hell, right?

    6. They keep complaining about no "long form" birth certificate
This document is the property of the state or county and is not released to an individual. In certain circumstances (such as adoptees, since it shows the actual parents as opposed to their birth document which shows the adoptive parents ) an individual can show up at the government office and view the document, but they can't copy it or receive a copy of it.

So no one has a copy of their "long form" birth certificate, nor can they get it. All this complaining about "no long form certificate" serves to show off their degree of ignorance about the matter.

    9. A small correction: There's been no court ruling as far as I know
Courts have ruled mostly on the issue of standing. While some judges have expressed considerable skepticism about the "evidence" offered by the birthers, I don't think any of the decisions have turned on the merits.

My personal opinion is that the Constitution empowers Congress to count the electoral votes and declare the winner. The logical interpretation is that assessing whether a particular candidate is eligible is up to Congress, not the courts. Back in 2008, the birthers tried to get Congress to refuse to seat Obama. They were disappointed when not even one Republican Senator or Representative would go out on that limb.

    14. Under the law in effect at that time, his mother couldn't convey citizenship.
A child with one citizen and one non-citizen parent, if born outside the United States, would be a citizen at birth only if the U.S. citizen parent had lived in the U.S. for at least five years after reaching the age of 14. Therefore, the citizen parent had to be at least 19 years old. Ann Dunham was still only 18 when she gave birth to her son, Barack Obama. Therefore, IF she had for some inexplicable reason flown halfway around the world to give birth in Kenya, far from friends and family, instead of in the excellent medical facilities in Honolulu, then her son would not have been a citizen at birth.

The law has since been changed but the change wasn't retroactive.
