Chicago gas prices highest in the U.S.

CAMARILLO, Calif. — When Chicago drivers stop to fill their gas tanks, they're now paying the highest prices in the nation.

According to the Lundberg Survey, Chicago's average price for gas is now $4.27 a gallon. At many stations it's much higher than that.

Nationally, the average is $3.88 a gallon, just 23 cents off the all-time high set in July of 2008.

The lowest average gas price is $3.54 a gallon in Tuscon, Arizona. .............(more)

1. They always are and it sucks
Gas prices are especially high in poorer neighborhoods, which is the gas companies taking advantage of the poor.

2. I don't see it that way, in fact much higher prices in 'upper' neighborhoods;
been that way for a long time.

5. Actually, it's often both. There are usually fewer gas stations in poor and richer areas.

Fewer in poorer areas, because fewer cars, less extra cash to spend in the mini-mart, and more crime.

Fewer in richer areas, because they zone them out as 'eyesores' and 'crime-attracters.'

In both cases they can price the gas higher because there are fewer choices.

6. Just drove through their on Friday - paid $4.05 in Gary
The sign coming off the turnpike advertised $3.85 if you paid in cash. I don't carry enough cash when I travel to pay for gas in cash. Paid the going price.

I noticed the rest of the way through Chicago the price was $4.26 or higher. Paid $3.67 in Iowa on I 80 just east of Newton.

7. That'll sure show all those icky poor people!
How dare you not make enough money to live closer to the only job you could get?

How dare you not be able to afford a Prius?

How dare you have to drive your kids to daycare because your spouse has to work, too -- and also drive too far to the only low-paying job they could get?

How dare you live in an exurb that doesn't have reliable, safe, and timely mass transit?

Icky, yucky, gross, un-American poor people, how dare you?

-- Love,
Your neighborhood comfortable liberals.
