Why do you think Rachel Maddow keeps reminding us of the tactics the baggers used?

'The Rachel Maddow Show' for Friday, April 22nd, 2011

<snip>Cable news was absolutely transfixed by this screamy, scream, screaminess (ph) of the town hall events in the summer of 2009.

Less prominently featured in that coverage was the fact that at least some of the stuff was ginned up and organized by corporate-funded front groups allied with the Republican Party. But, wait, wait, I know, those were real people. Yes, those are real people, but there were also big vinyl-wrapped buses shouldered by corporate-funded conservative groups driving across the country, organizing for these events, directing people to specific town halls, even providing specific talking points.

Look, talking points for town hall attendees and instructing them on how to disrupt these town halls. Quote, “You need to rock the boat early in the representative‘s presentation. Watch for an opportunity to yell out. The goal is to rattle him.”

2. Because all kinds are now yelling about the republicans trying
to dismantle Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid in Ryans "budget". People from both sides of the aisle are protesting the idea at the town halls..difference is that the media hasn't put it on a 24 hr. video loop like they did with the t-party and Obama health plan.

3. You bet yer ass! I think our side WITHOUT A DOUBT has to hijack pages from their playbook
and use it all against them.

Hey, being nice hasn't worked. Being patient hasn't worked. Even exposing their tactics hasn't worked, so far. And the job still needs to get DONE. Perhaps it's time for the taste-of-their-own-medicine-see-how-they-like-it treatment.

5. Democrats don't have the guts to get down and dirty. Thats the problem. The only group
that continues to get down with the wing nuts is organized labor. Thank God for them, otherwise dems wouldn't be heard from at all, generally speaking that is.

7. Yep. All the pearl clutchers will continue to excuse the traitors in our
own camp, and condemn those of us with the guts to try and fight these son-of-a-bitches in hand to hand combat.

8. People are afraid of losing their jobs and they have good reason to be that way.
Doesn't mean that they shouldn't take responsibility for the truth, but rather that We need to figure out how to deal with this problem.

12. Well, since an authentic political party would be built from the ground up, us.

The leaders that we get are partly the result of campaign finance corruption and partly the result our own disengagement from the issues and the processes. Recall that only about 50% of eligible voters actually vote.

It's not just our leaders who won't say anything that might upset anyone, it's also most of us, or if some of us do say stuff, we say it in a way (personal insults and few if any facts) that makes it possible for our opposition to justify demonizing and ignoring "Those angry, rude, bitter people over there who want to take our money away from us."

16. Just wanted to check and see who you were referring to. We have many
good democratic congressmen and senators who come from safe demo states and districts who need not worry about being re-elected every election cycle. These are the ones who should be the pit bulls of our party. Give them free reign or a kick in the ass to attack the republican and the teabaggers at every opportunity and get "down and dirty" like they constantly attack us. That would be a good start.

18. They NEED to hear from us, good and loud. We should end this idea that they

are supposed to read our minds perfectly and then we punish them (which actually results in punishing ourselves) when they don't read our minds perfectly.

We need honest commitment, accountability and longitudinal follow-up in all of our communication relationships.

6. If you know and understand the other side's strategy and tactics
you stand a much better chance of defeating them if
you have the gumption to fight.

Another reason is hopefully some rank and file Republicans
will hear about this and realize they are being duped.
It is not a grassroots(people"s movement). IT IS A CORPORATE
MOVEMENT MASQUERADING AS A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT.

9. As the segment explains...
The beltway media spends far too much time covering and promoting manufactured, corporate-funded outrage but deliberately ignores sincere, populist disgust because progressive ideals haven't got a cabal of billionaire sponsors.

If one watches the video segment Rachel makes that point quite successfully:

13. So we recognize it for what it is when they try to use it again...
AND because they set that bar... they have no right to bitch about it when it's used against them.
