Police: Missouri levee failure imminent
http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/04/25/missouri.levee.failure/index.html?hpt=T2

(CNN) -- Police were going house to house in part of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on Monday, ordering people to evacuate ahead of an imminent "catastrophic failure" of a levee on the Black River.

The city said the levee had been compromised after a week in which the area received more than eight inches of rain. Authorities ordered some residents most at risk to evacuate immediately. Other residents near the river were asked to closely monitor developments and water levels in their neighborhoods, the police department said.

Concern over the levee comes as parts of the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys brace for what the National Weather Service said could be major flooding throughout parts of the lower Mississippi River and Ohio River valleys.

In Cape Girardeau, Missouri -- where the National Weather Service predicted the Mississippi River would crest Friday at 12.5 feet above flood stage -- the city-owned airport had to close Sunday as standing water from heavy rains covered its runways.

2. Perhaps it is time to "convince" Rush Limbaugh to contribute to relief efforts in his home town?

3. We knew in New Orleans
that the levees wouldn't hold in the event of a massive hurricane approaching the mouth of the Mississippi River. It was known since the 50's. No one did anything about it. To my knowledge, nothing has still been done about it other than attempts at "feel-good" repairs.

This is what you get when there is no value placed on preventative maintenance, and the bottom line from a day to day basis is worshiped. Wall Street worships the bottom line, as do politicians. That's why we are in the messes we are in - you plan for the future, and worry about your children, but there are some that worship only the short term gains. They don't understand they are ultimately destroying all of us, including themselves.

7. How much longer before the American public wakes up to Global Warming and oil industry lies?
Even if it's too late to actually turn things around -- the public has

to know -- we can still be somewhat prepared against some of the weather

catastrophes coming oru way!!

We've had flooding rains here in NJ -- ever increasing --

and now we're headed into temperatures as high as 80 degrees -- in April!!

For those who might still not know --

Global Warming is about HEATING up the atmosphere which brings chaotic weather

conditions -- Global Warmin has the power to CHANGE weather patterns, winds patterns,

ocean currents --

it will INCREASE the numbers of storms, hurricanes, cyclones, tornadoes -- and

INCREASE their severity -- it will increase floods and droughts.

Global Warming is also bringing INCREASED numbers of earthquakes -- and INCREASED

severity of earthquakes --

Earthquakes, in turn, generate volcanic activity.

Common Sense would suggest that we should be doing things like shutting down

nuclear reactors -- it takes at least 6 months to properly shut down a nuclear reactor.

Those of us who have experience the increasing winds/gusts in our area are probably quite

aware of how debris flies around -- tree limbs are falling putting us in the position here

in my town of severely lopping limbs off of older trees -- i.e., "we have to burn the

village to save it" --

Shopping carts are flying around those large parking lots -- I tried to put two stray

carts into the "shopping cart hanger" one day and it was so windy, they were pushed right

out again!!

The elites/capitalists have done this damage to our planet -- and they have made sure that

few Americans really understand the depths of the damage!!

8. Actually
what we need to "Wake Up" to is the fact that we need to tax the living shit out of the wealthy so that we can afford to pay for infrastructure improvements.

11. That "Infrastructure" replacement that President Obama is
talking about covers these situations.

I would take it further, I would move all towns and homes away from area's that are prone to flooding. Not just poor and middle class areas but wealthy area's too. They should have never been built in flood prone areas.

The Democratic party needs to remind Americans that when a structure fails it was impacted by Republicans playing games.
