17. It's just one of those things I HAVE TO point out; |
|
"Hypocrisy" is a failure of integrity whereby one propounds virtues and behaviors that they do not engage in, or condemns behaviors that they routinely engage in.
"Hypocracy" is our current form of government.
Hope that clears things up.

5. Nothing wrong with a little liberal Christianity |

especially to throw it back in rush's face. I can't believe that rush actually tried to go "religious", getting it all wrong of course. Someone needs to set the record straight, and I love Jesus's teaching on the rich's duty to help the poor. Talk about socialism.

10. I believe that Jesus was a teacher and there is no harm in repeating the most important lessons |
|
And from what I have read they are to take care of people, love people, forgive people and on......
And interestingly that is the same gist I find in many other religions. They all seem to say the same thing and they all get bastardized by some people who want it to say different.
(Just talking about Jesus here, not enough info on the rest)

23. You are correct he was a rabbi |
|
one of those little known details. Jesus lived at a time when rabbinic Judaism was taking form. Rabi Akiva and him had a lot in common. Rabbi means teacher.

Hope Franklin Graham was still in the studio to hear it, he proved to be as uninformed as Rush.

9. Many of Rush's listeners are libertarians who don't care... *but*... |
|
...the rest of his listeners are quite religious and give quite a big shit about what they believe Jesus said.
Nice that Rush left himself open and Lawrence entered left with a big paddle.
And btw Lawrence did a number on Graham's head tonight, too. Graham was babbling before his segment was over trying to use an avalanche of blather to avoid Lawrence's question about what Graham has given up to follow Jesus.

thinks that liberals know nothing about religion so I love when one of ours takes them down. I went all thru private Christian schools instead of public schools. I REMEMBER what I was taught ... so they needn't think they can pull that shit on me!

19. Use their own ammunition against them. |
|
Take the good stuff in the Bible about helping the poor and hungry against them.
They should take the good stuff: The Beatitudes, "judge not lest ye be judged", "as you did it unto the least of them, so also you did it unto me", and toss the weird stuff.

They have to ignore the hateful stuff Jesus said, since he cussed out a fig tree out of season and condoned killing your disobedient children, and sending people to hell, not to mention the OT mass murders.
They should save the four or five pages of good stuff in the bible and throw away all the nonsensical rules.
They would end up with a couple of Psalms, the Beatitudes, "judge not lest ye be judged", "as you did it unto the least of them so also you did it unto me" and a few other things.
But they don't. They think they have to keep the whole mess of Jewish history, village gossip, ancient fairy tales from older religions, entirely made up stuff like Joseph and Mary having to travel for the tax assessment, and generally ridiculous stuff. I found out about the editing job they did at the Council of Nicaea at the orders of Emperor Constantine.
If you want to know what really happened, get Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible - two volumes.

18. I'll bet Laurence's catholic school nuns were proud! |
|
Although I usually detest proof texting, this was great television. But he forgot one: Acts 4: 32-37, where the believers held 'all things in common,' and 'sold evrything they had' to help those in need.
Ah, those fundies think they have Jesus in the palm of their hands...
