9. Politics. Trump is using the same tactics against President Obama as the left |
|
used against Bush. The details are different, but the themes are the same.
Theme one: Illegitimacy.
Theme two: Stupidity.
I believe these themes have been used over and over again for many US Presidents. It's how Americans do it.

14. Here's the difference: |
|
There were credible evidence to question GWB's academic qualifications. The questioning of Obama's qualifications came unexpectedly, out of the blue, based on precisely nothing. Which leaves one and only one reason for such questioning being made: racism.
Beware of the false equivalence.

17. The article makes a nice point about Bush's critique of the 20 point bonus, |
|
but it doesn't offer any evidence Bush was not qualified for Yale.

23. bush couldnt utter a sentence without a malapropism and came from a very wealthy family |
|
this is why it is perfectly reasonable to think he wasn't qualified (misunderestimator is not a ivy league vocab word), and that his parents pulled strings to get him in.
Obama speaks correctly & his parents are middle class, therefore there is no reasonable way to assume that they pulled strings to get him in.

26. Poor public speaking skills does not mean someone does not belong at a nice school. |
|
Bush had a way of getting almost anything he wanted. If this was just because of money, then Democrats should be able to do the same thing.
Perhaps Bush was just talented at surrounding himself with the "right" people, but that in itself is a rare skill.

|
i think wealthy people like bush, often get into school because of whom their parents know. its not exactly a big secret. so to think bush didnt earn his way to yale, is not so out of the norm

29. We liberals generally have a bias against rich people, Republicans generally have a bias against |
|
black people. We say Bush got in because of money, they hint President Obama got in because of his skin color.
Since I am a liberal, I think our class bias is less offensive than their pigmentation bias, but neither side has any evidence for the claim.
the one language he knows incorrectly
Bush is actually bilingual.

either way, it comes back to the same thing, even if you think we had a reverse classist attitude to bush, by your own admission, this accusation is racist.

32. I suppose I did, after I thought about why people would believe the claim. |
|
The accusation will have traction with racists; most of the tea party will probably eat this up.
I still think Trump's main motivation is theater, but I have to admit there does seem to be an ugly racial undertone to accusation. The accusation doesn't really work otherwise.
Alright, I've been convinced.

5. Trump is about as subtle as a turd in the punchbowl. |
|
Of course the "not smart enough for Harvard" canard is blatant, blazing, screaming racism. Trump could just as well have said outright that the black guy couldn't have been smart enough for Harvard (because he's black); he was just one of those affirmative action admittees who took a spot that should have been filled by a smarter, more deserving white student. Because that's what he meant. Or, if he didn't mean it himself, he said it because he knows that's what his knuckledragging teabagger audience thinks.

11. Don't forget that, according to Trump, Pres. Obama also could not have written his first book which |
|
is as good as or better than Ernest Hemingway. Somebody else (Bill Ayers) must have written it. Barack Obama, one of only 44 people to ever get elected President of the United States of America, is somehow incapable of doing that.

18. Well Obama only graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law |
|
so I reckon that is proof he wasn't really smart enough to get in. If you can't graduate summa cum laude why even go?
I am not sure how the right justify the Obama is dumb meme. I keep hearing reference to teleprompter with that, also strange. Obama doesn't use it more, he just uses it better. Reagan was good with it, bush was not. Others use notes... I read one ass who had figured out how he did so well at interviews/press conferences despite being dumb. They said his handlers made him memorize answers to the most likely questions...
There has to be some racist flavor to the accusation... either being racist or pleasing racists... He doesn't souns stupid, act stupid... but they explain away his degrees, his books, any good thing he does... with made up reasons. Trump is really getting into right wing or Obamahate sites and throwing out all those old accusations.

25. QUESTION: I voted racism because of the obvious double standard of a person who graduated with honor |
|
...being called on their mental aptitude vs a person who is dumb as fuck like Bush not being called on much mentally by Trump.
Is there anything else that I'm missing?
I think the obvious double standard is enough.
