Libya has potential to be a major problem for Obama. |
|
Obama could have ignored Libya, or he could flatten it. There's not much room politically for something in between. Once it was decided that we would bomb Libya, Qaddafi had to be removed for this to be a political success. So now the republicans are cheerleading the destruction of Libya. This is a political trap. If Qaddafi is killed, captured, or replaced, Obama succeeds. Anything else, especially a drawn out civil war is a failure. The republicans are suckering Obama into a fight that he's going to have a hard time winning. And he had no choice once he started dropping bombs. This may not end well for him.

2. It doesn't matter what he said. |
|
Qaddafi is a fairly clear enemy in the minds of Americans. That and we bombed one of his compounds.

3. I thought I read that operations will continue as long as Gaddafi is in power. |
|
Which would suggest regime change is a goal.

8. Seems like Gates actually said it, but assuming it came from the top is not unreasonable. |

4. Remember that pride everyone felt when Saddam was hung by maked men who chanted for Al-Sadr? |
|
Wouldn't it be great if that could happen again? Maybe do a Ceaușescu on Qaddafi and his family- kids included cause Freedom wears a blindfold, 'member?

6. And the lack of intervention in Syria also makes us look bad. |
|
Because once you intervene in one place on behalf of "humanitarian" grounds, people think you should intervene everywhere.

I'd say there's quite a bit that's already actual - now we have TWO "War Parties" instead of just one, and nowhere for people who think that the bread and circuses of serial military adventures aren't proper.
Aw, who am I kidding. We always had two War Parties, and it's only that tiny remaining remnant of idealism in me that ever thought otherwise.

10. Getting rid of Qaddafi will only make things worse in Libya |
|
This whole god damn mess was the brain child of some philosopher in France, the CIA was eager to buy into it, since it's a made to order covert coupe. he civil war would rage on for years until the next Qaddafi comes along.
