Stephanie Miller discussing royal wedding on Ed Schultz show: Guys should "fake interest"
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 01:19 AM by alp227
So i went to MSNBC.com and clicked on that interview. Sucks how Ed and the later reruns of the MSNBC opinion shows for the long block of British royal wedding coverage. But Stephanie Miller (whose radio show comes on before Thom Hartmann's) appeared and said that men should "pretend to be interested" in the wedding in order to keep women interested in them. I'm sure that this discussion was humorous and mocking the American media obsession, as Ed pointed out a New York Times/CBS News poll pointed out that only 6% of Americans were closely following this wedding despite the mainstream media shoving every single trivial bleeping detail of William and Kate on the front pages of websites and places like that.

At least if you're a football fan, the wedding coincides with this year's NFL Draft!

What do you plan to do on April 28-29 if not watching the wedding? I'm gonna do on Thursday an electrical engineering class lab on an AM radio receiver, then sleep, then comes Friday, listen to Thom Hartmann, do some studying, and attend a comedy play.

4. Good point, hadn't thought of it quite that way.
Still I was a history major in college especially British history so I can't help but watch, haha. :-)

6. why aren't all the royal weddings televised and talked up? the japanese royals, the

9. I don't know, I wonder too
I would watch. I would guess it has to do with America having been part of England but I don't really know. Either that or there is more money in it for the media to cover English doings and not those in other countries. Good question though.

14. Americans never liked movies with subtitles...
Actually, I don't know why the media is covering this so heavily when the fact is that nobody cares. It's like they're trying to cram it down our throats. Why?

19. I'll be watching too, Raine. Can't help it - I'm a sucker for this stuff.

Having loved and slobbered over photos of that royal jewelry collection for my entire life, asking me to miss this is like asking me not to eat chocolate. Which I WILL surely do ANYWAY - WHILE I'm watching the royal wedding.

Most of the news is so damn frustrating and disheartening. I plan to revel in the whole prince-and-princess thing with the horses and the carriages and the pomp and the pageantry and the fancy dignity and the heraldic trumpets and the crazy chapeaux and all the reactions in the faces in the crowd, everything covered by the ridiculously hilarious Richard Quest and a whole lotta people with British accents. AND the dress. AND which historic royal tiara she's wearing. AND the crap. AND everything else. Sorry. It's gonna be FUN! Rather an orgy of it, I think, while my husband snickers at me with that same benign smile of befuddled tolerance that he had for our then-young children whenever they got out of hand! And I'm gonna have a great time!

I swear it'll be almost like taking a vacation.

on Friday afternoon. That seems a reasonable public alternative.

7. How many threads will there be before Friday about how you aren't interested
First, this poll has been skewed more often than Trump skews his net worth. The rest of the poll says 22% are following somewhat closely.
I'm sure some men lied too when asked. So what if older women care more or are more interested?
I don't give a shit about the NBA, or car racing or AM receivers. I have never taken the time to bitch about it on a politics site.

I think the non-interested should get you noses out of the air. With all the rain we are having, you might drown.
I think you should just grin and bear it. Let the hoi polloi ( the common people) have their simple pleasures without all the attitude.

15. I don't hate the British...
but I hate anyone with the audacity to claim to be royalty.

They're not royalty. Royalty doesn't exist. There's no legitimacy to the concept of royalty.

Couldn't agree more with THAT one, either!

The Superbowl is something I always tune away from. I guess I feel the same way about the Superbowl (and football in general) that a lot of people here feel about the royal wedding (with their lip curled and their channel changers handy). I'd take a royal wedding over a Superbowl ANY day.

32. I'm still in the dog house...
seems my middle child was asking his Mom what the big deal was about with the wedding and Mom went into Dianne and royal wedding fever etc....unfortunately, while she was explaining to our son why...she caught him making silly faces at me while she was looking out the window. Of course I threw gas on the fire by laughing and rolling my eyes....so I got caught too and busted. I am not the least bit interested in the royal wedding. Oh well, guess I'll be forced to watch some of it with my wife. Luckily son will be at his school's conference golf tournament and will miss the hoopla...lucky kid....Still it was funny and worth getting hollered at about being insensitive, neanderthal and childish....hahahaha
