Rep. Allen West:: American men are being neutered?
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 12:17 PM by leftyladyfrommo
by progressive women. Like Planned parenthood supporters and Code Pink?

What the fuck?

God preserve me from conservative men.

I just saw this over on Raw Story. What is wrong with these guys? Are they just so insecure that any women with a mind scares them to death? I have so little tolerance for this kind of thinking.

15. Nope.
Why, have you figured out a way to do it. Because I've got a list of folks who ought to be retroactively aborted.

Into his actions over detainee abuse.

10. Neutered?
Well, if I see Gloria Steinem coming toward me with a grim expression and a big pair of scissors, I'll know to run away.

I know West was probably trying to be metaphorical, but failed. Being a real man has very little to do with the content of our nads and it bugs me that people like him think that's all that men are.

REAL men are protective, supportive and respectful of the women in are lives. That sounds a bit paternalistic, but I don't mean it that way. I just mean that it takes a village with everyone being mutally supportive and protective.

Anyway, it's not women asserting their rights that is "neutering" men. It's two things. One, it's servitude and the economic helplessness that comes with it. As the super rich own and control more and more of this country, men are deprived of our traditional expectation that we are people who get things done and on whom others can depend. Suddenly being unable to do that is rather, well, unmanning. The second thing is the oppressive demands of cvilization. We have gone from being the hunting half of hunter-gatherers to cogs in a machine where every aspect of our lives, personalities and behavior is forced into docile conformity. I know it's not just men who suffer from these things. I am responding within the scope of West's remark.

Do you think men in general are feeling kind of neutered?

19. I can only speak for myself.
And yeah, I feel like I can't be my real self. Maybe I'm just projecting a bit because of this job I have. I've been here for eight years and have always felt like I have to pretend to be a lot more docile and a lot more deferential than I actually am. (No one here even curses.) I hate the fact that ass-kissing to protect the boss' glass ego is practically a job requirement. I hate these neck ties which are obviously a phalic symbol and therefore a bit indecent, but I have to wear them. I hate that I am not allowed to have my normal, adult facial hair. And the list goes on and on.

I am pretty sure that equality for women is not causing this problem. As a general proposition, I would rather work for women than men because (and I know I am painting with a broad brush) they tend to be less authoritiarian and tend not to be so egocentric.

30. Republicon 'men' know they have but little time
to spew their fear and hate, and to indulge their piggish greed.

JC is going to arrive on the scene and deliver them their karma.

22. Powerlessness
I agree that the further we regress from an outdoors, tribal life, the harder it gets to find a suitable partner. When you have no circle of friends or workmates, it is very difficult to meet someone in our fractured isolated society. Anyone who has tried Net dating knows that, in spite of widespread unemployment and stepping down from high-pay professionalism to McJobs, many women reject the financially unstable.

23. Yeah, there's that too.
I'm happily married and it would be a lot worse if every time I tried to meet a woman she branded me a "loser" (because business interests just don't need him anymore.)

28. Class rejection
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 11:24 AM by Mulhane
....is no doubt why many landless new immigrant men found Native American or African American wives. Zinn tells us it was quite common. Of course, biracial pairing was much more accepted in French and Spanish colonies than in the English.
It should also be noted that there are now more women in the work force than men, partly because they will work for less. Reaganomics has bulldozed thousands of middle-aged men into the "Loser" dumpster. Meanwhile rich old Trump & Madhoff types have plenty of young females ready to set aside their independence and feminism for a cushy life with these perrenial "winners."

14. Hold still for just a minute, Mr West, this won't hurt much.
It is sad that they make everyone their enemies. Every single group is against them. We are all out to destroy them.

Someone tell this guy he can get more flies with honey than with vinegar. No wonder he has no friends.

16. Reminds me of bill maher's routine about the feminization of the US.
Of course, maher is a (l)Libertarian and a popular stand-up comic who appeals to the left rather than a repub Rep. pandering to the neo-cons.

21. I understand his complaint, but he missed the mark on causation.
It's big money interests and a sensationalist press that are making us paranoid of safety, not women generally.

18. Conservative men...and thus a lot of Republicans...
have been afraid of strong women for a long long time. They don't seem to have the brainpower necessary to grasp that a strong woman combined with a strong man is an awesome pairing. Give and take, balance, etc. They cannot seem to handle women unless they can control, put down or impede their equality.

Rather immature.
Rather insecure.
Rather petty.

Mostly very very sad.

20. You left out the best part!
It is also the cause of the debt. How? Who knows. What debt? It doesn't matter. Code Pink and Planned Parenthood are to blame for the debt!

We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side—these Planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness—to let them know what we are not going to have our men become subservient. That's what we need you to do. Because if you don't, then the debt will continue to grow.
