'americans are obsessed by the royal wedding'
heard this on npr after they reported that nbc/m$nbc has sent over 200 people to england to cover the wedding.

i would offer that the american media is obsessed by the royal wedding and the american people don't give a shit.

1. Yep,
The American media is desperately trying to gin up some sort of interest in the royal wedding, while the American public simply yawns and moves on.

2. a poll I saw yesterday showed that only 6% of Americans are interested in the story.
The corporate media has a job....promote royalism and fascism for their privileged elite masters.

25. Not only do I have no interest, I turn the channel when it comes on
I don't know or care about those people. Of course, in spite of my efforts, I've been forced to learn a few details--like how Kate had to wait so long for this and how she's losing too much weight.

38. Same with me
I turn the channel the second some bit of insipid "news" about this wedding comes on. I'd rather watch a marathon of infomercials then that crap.

3. I am only obsessed in that I want to see Kate's birth certificate
I think she is an alien from outer space sent to take over the world. Taking over the British royalty is step one.
(note to Trump - how was that?)

5. Yep, that's my guess also. Just another indicator how out of touch the...
...media is with reality.

Back in the 80's with Charles and Dianna it really was a different world. In the last 30-odd years all this bullshit has lost a lot of it's excitement. It's just a vastly different world.

But since Charlie Sheen is laying low for now and Lindsay Lohan is going to be doing community service, how else is the media going to try to take our damn minds off of how we're getting screwed by the uberrich?

22. You mean the wedding involving that incredibly successful band of German hemophiliacs?. . .
Where a desiccated empire pauses once again to witness the coronation of yet another welfare mother? (For what else do you call someone who receives additional monies for spawning?)

Ah, I remember the last silly spectacle, when we Irish lined the route of the circus parade and shouted our best wishes:

"Up Chuck, and Di! Up Chuck, and Di!"

Do you think the American media will cover us this time around?

(thanks to The Daily Show for the hemophiliac gibe)

28. I like the UK and travel there alot. Still no interest in this wedding.
It shows how messed up our media is falling over themselves to make this some kind of event.

Andrew and Harry are nowhere near as compelling as their mom and her "storybook wedding". That was kind of neat back in the days.

The London Olympics, however, will get my attention for sure.

40. The local news station in Boston even sent a reporter there.
It's bad enough that the national news programs cover it constantly, but why the heck does a LOCAL news station cover it at all, never mind actually send a reporter to England to cover it? It's been on the local news every night, sometimes the top story!

And yes, I'm one who doesn't give a shit about the royals at all, wedding or not. I remember I had one friend who was quite interested in the royals, though I don't know why, but I don't know anybody else who gives a shit.
