The only things missing were the pitchforks and torches.......

By Mark Schlueb, Orlando Sentinel
3:19 p.m. EDT, April 26, 2011

A town hall meeting held in Orlando by U.S. Rep. Dan Webster degenerated into bedlam Tuesday, with members of the crowd shouting down the freshman Republican congressman and yelling at one another.

It was the last of a series of town hall meetings Webster has hosted during Congress' spring recess, which ends Monday. While the others were civil and largely uneventful, the 300 people at Tuesday's meeting were so raucous they were scolded by a police officer to act "like grown people."

Webster tried to go over a series of charts showing growing levels of federal spending and debt, and the reason he supports the federal budget plan put forward by Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis. But he was interrupted at every turn by shouts from his critics, including members of progressive groups such as Moveon.org and Organize Now.

Boos and shouts of "liar" were mixed with angry accusations that Ryan's plan to change Medicare would leave those now under 55 without health insurance in their retirement, calls to eliminate the tax cuts first put in place by former President Bush and the need to raise corporate taxes rather than cut entitlement programs. .............(more)

1. Dear me. Was he upset?
I wouldn't want him to have palpitations of the heart or anything. Although he can see a doctor whenever he pleases.

3. They started it.
They started the incivility at town hall meetings. They don't like it when the tables are turned. Too bad.

I do hope people point that out to the teabaggers and their ilk. I hope they ask them how it feels. And down the road, I also hope we can get back to civility.

They started the lack of civility in Congress, too, beginning with Newtie. I hope we can get away from that soon, too.

11. Yes indeed!
They set that bar during the healthcare townhalls... they thought it was okay then, so it surely is okay now!

12. Some whiney whittle teabagger wrote a letter to our
area newspaper today, complaining about how she was treated in Madison at the Palin rally. They made so much noise the the poor baby could not hear Sarah.

Well, too bad. You went to their house. If you don't like how they behave in their house, stay home, whiner. That goes for you too, Sarah Quitter.

16. The GOP condoned that kind of action when they didn't step up and say it was bad...
They have no right to say it now... they now own their TeaBagger buddies.

4. They need to remember next time: Torch, check. Pitchfork, check.
Actually, if there were a townhall meeting here, I know where my flashlight is; but I can't remember where I put my electric pitchfork. ;-)

7. someone should market pillows shaped like pitchforks and torches
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 05:37 PM by Motown_Johnny
because we would never be allowed to bring the real thing into a meeting, but maybe we could get pillows in.

What is the worst that could happen? A pillow fight?

6. Maybe this will open the door for Grayson next time.

Webster only beat Grayson because the rethugs were so determined to defeat Grayson
that they lavished so much funding on his campaign so as to make it a sure thing.

13. Not just the pitchforks and torches were missing
Where is the breathless wall-to-wall coverage from the popular media? I remember last year they couldn't show enough of Democrats getting an earful from "constituents" bused in from parts unknown, and having to deal with yammering crowds of know-nothings. This year, there are actual people with real concerns (not fake worries about death panels and birth certificates) giving hapless Republicans a run through the mill, but where are NBC, CBS and ABC? Oh right; London for the wedding royale.

Priorities.
