73. I hate Vermont actually, but I LOVE their recent Universal Healthcare ruling.

Other than the mountains and great skiing, the rest of the state and it's citizens can be set ablaze. The people there are the most racist and unwelcoming people I ever experienced. I was treated better by Whites when I lived in the deep South(NC and LA)...and that's NO exaggeration!

Regardless, I hope this ruling proves contageous to other states. The President should openly praise it, but I'm not holding my breath.

102. I am appalled that you had this treatment anywhere. I hope you weren 't
treated like this in my state of Kentucky. If so, I apologize for the losers. Just remember that is what they are LOSERS, trying to make themselves feel like somebody.

103. tsk, tsk
sorry about your experience... probably not a good idea to group so many together though... I know a few disgusting racist people in Vermont (most likely the same percentage per population of other states) and I know wonderful loving people... more of the latter.

If you want to try again I can point you in the direction of some very good people to visit :)

30. Montpelier is a neat town- smallest state cap in the country, only 7,000 people
lots of really good little restaurants too and as you say practically no franchises (there are quite a few on the Barre-Montpelier Rd, though) Oh, and there's a great independent bookstore.

Did you get to the Three Penny Taproom?

collaborative there. Sorry, can't remember the name of the band.

My niece's fiance teaches for one of the community colleges and does some editing for one of the local publications, so he knows lots of people and took us around to some very cool bars, CLASSIC little hole-in-the-wall dives except for being smoke-less, with hot bands and young adults playing pool and socializing up front while us "old hippies" danced and jived to the music in the back. Very relaxed, un-self-conscious, truly cool environments (unlike the uptight boozy meat-markets around here).

37. Yes :)
We have a number of pieces to look at. One on the top of our list was in Lowell, 213 acres with a strawbale house partially constructed, but after finding out it is just a few miles from the country's biggest abestos mine, we are most likely scratching that one of the list. Looking I think at Lyndon, Newark and a couple others this weekend and then Central VT places the following weekend.
