SPRING HILL — Officials with General Motors announced a $25,000 donation to Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee Tuesday at the Spring Hill manufacturing plant. That’s enough to provide 100,000 meals across the agency’s 46-county service area, said Second Harvest President/CEO Jaynee Day. snip

The event, which was co-hosted by the UAW Local 1853, is one of 54 open houses GM is hosting this year at each of its U.S. facilities to recognize the role automotive manufacturing and parts distribution play in local economies across the United States.

The Spring Hill plant has 2,436 employees, of whom more than 1,000 are hourly workers. It generated $125 million in wages last year, paid $16 million in payroll taxes, and paid $2 million in property taxes.
