President Obama to the press, "I did your job for you." |
|
Will the press ever be competent again in this country?

1. That is very well said. |
|
Why didn't the press find a way to get a hold of his birth certificate? This is outrageous. Such shoddy investigative research on their part.

4. The state does not release the certificate |
|
Many journalists, however, verified its existence in Hawaii--two years ago. And have repeated this often.
The president himself had to make a special request--one that would not be granted to an ordinary citizen--to get a copy of it.

21. IIRC any person can request a certified copy of their original birth |
|
record. Here in CA, however, if you are not said person or a parent or child of theirs, all you can get is an "informational copy". I do not know it said informational copy is like the abbreviated BC Obama first provided, or if it's a photocopy of the original minus the certification stamp/signature. Every state is different, and in this day and age of digital records, original paper copies are going the way of the dodo bird.

17. Only certain people can legally request and obtain a CERTIFIED copy of |
|
a birth or death or marriage record, depending on the individual state's laws.
Most places, you MUST be the person on the cert, or a parent or child of the person to be permitted to have one.
Certified copies of birth records are a free ticket to identity theft and so are very sparingly doled out.

15. No, it was not even implied |
|
He chided them for giving attention to an issue they had already settled (the entire press, sans Fox, agrees that Obama's birth certificate existed and proved him a citizen), and for making this the story as opposed to budget issues, deficit, etc.
He had no need to say he was doing their job: they'd already proven he was a citizen, but they kept the Trump story alive for .... unknown reasons.

19. And if the press ever bothered to do their job |
|
They would have shown the BC to Trump on the air and stick a copy of it on top his head to cover his horrendous combover. It has been clear to me that the press was complicit in this birther nonsense by promoting it to the hilt.

23. Everytime he talks to the GOP, he does the same. Remember the whines when he destroyed their points? |
|
They said it was 'unfair' that he talked to them in public. So they've been doing their stupid whispering campaign for years.
And sadly, because he's busy working and not doing press conferences to massage the minds of the masses daily, Democrats think that he's cozying up to them in private.
I doubt he's any different with them then that when he took them to the woodshed early on.

11. Maybe journalists should, in addition to learning |
|
communication skills, be forced to have an in depth knowledge of the topics they would cover--especially when it comes to history and politics. Tweety can be annoying at times, but he is one of my favorite anchors because he actually knows history quite well.

14. NBC understood that, if only for a moment |
|
In the immediate aftermath of the press conference, Matt Lauer was chatting with Chuck Todd about the nontroversy. Todd mentioned that the President had been forced into addressing the issue because of polls showing a plurality and nearly a majority of all Republicans thought he hadn't been born in the United States. Todd made a passing reference to some complicity by the media, and Lauer quickly went to David Gregory, who gushed about what a swell visual it had been to have the President on the split screen opposite Donald Trump in New Hampshire. Really, Fluffy? This whole sideshow produced a good visual, so you're satisfied with your somnambulent response and NBC's relentless flogging of Trump's wild speculations?
But by the end of the segment, Lauer and Gregory had mutually absolved each other for their sloppy "journalism" and by extension had let the rest of the popular media off the hook, as if all those people in the polls had just spontaneously formulated a lie that they all believed in, without any assistance from anybody, and certainly not from anyone drawing a paycheck from 30 Rock.

I think it was on GMA to Michelle Bachman last Wednesday. That should have been enough to make this press conference unnecessary. But of course some people don't trust him either. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/20/stephanopoulos-bachmann-obama-birth-certificate_n_851529.html
