Producer of Atlas Shrugged having second thoughts regarding continuing series
Now producer John Aglialoro, who spent years trying to make the film, says he might abandon his plans to continue the adaption with two more movies. And while there’s a part of me that wants to accept the overwhelming commercial power of the movie critic, in this case I have to wonder if Atlas Shrugged wasn’t actually done in by the fact of being a lousy movie.

2. The truth is there are very few
"good Republican movies". They just don't have the creative thinking that goes into it.

John Milius is probably the exception that proves the rule. Even though I find him to be obnoxious you can't deny the power of Apocalypse Now or Dirty Harry.

Atlas Shrugged had a small built in audience and that was all they would ever get. Who the hell wants to see a movie that spends 2 hours extolling the virtues of Narcissism?

No matter how well the movie was made it had no chance because people don't want to spend money to watch rich people discuss how wonderful they are and how useless and awful everyone else is.

4. The reason there are not good right-wing movies is not so much a lack of talent...
The real reason is that no one is moved by a story praising selfishness. People are moved by stories of justice, and that is why there have been so many great left-leaning movies of the years, but how could anyone be seriously moved by a movie about screwing over poor people for the benefit of the rich? Sure there have been plenty of satirical movies with this theme and some of them have been quite successful, but those are clearly intended to be satire. No one wants to watch a serious movie praising selfishness. There are plenty of right-wing pro-war movies, but people watch them for the action not the politics. Even if Atlas Shrugged did have serious talent behind it it would have had no chance of succeeding, how do you make a good movie in praise of greed? There is a reason it took them half a century to make this movie, everyone who was not completely blind knew it would fail.

3. Darn--I wanted it to be a two-fer money pit.
A black hole to inhale $ that might otherwise be spent on lobbying and campaigns.
