Today, I waited in line at the gas pump where gas was $3.78 per gallon
The wait was not long, but there were more cars lining up as I got ready to leave. Across the street from the station I was at (Hess), Mobil was selling gas at $3.88 per gallon. A mile down the road, another station was selling gas at $3.88 per gallon. No one was at either of those stations. In the small town where I work, gas is $4.17 per gallon. No one there either.

It's amazing that we now think $3.78 per gallon is a bargain. I only pump $20 at a time now and drive much less. Gone are the days I could drive 50 miles to go hiking in NH. Now I stay home and not watch asshole Trump on TV.

1. It's 4.50 here
There do seem to be fewer people on the road lately. Can't be good for the economy.

4. There was an article in one of our local papers saying that gas station owners
are making less because people are only buying $20 at a time rather than filling up.

6. Food and gas prices--the perfect storm...
Pretty soon, the full brunt of exorbitant food prices and rising gas prices is
going to slap us in the fact.

The powers that be can release all of the "green shoots" stories they want and tout
a recovery--with lie-based statistics. When the malls and the Target parking lots
are empty, and more small businesses close, and companies report shitty quarterly
earnings---all of that media window dressing will mean zilcharoni.

2. I have changed my patterns as well...
I only fill $30 at a time. It takes $80 to fill my gas-guzzlig tank (my fault, I know). I guess
I feel that the less weight I have in my car, the better gas mileage I'll get--so I only fill it
1/3 full. Even if I'm getting just a little better gas mileage it's worth it.

I've also talked my kids into walking to and from school when it is nice. They take gymnastics 20 minutes
away and I can feel the gas being sucked out of the car on these trips (melodramatic, I know). So, we're
going to ensure that going forward, their classes are on the same day. I originally signed them up for
different class nights, so that I could spend "alone time" with each of my girls--while the other one
was at gymnastics. I guess that's a luxury we can't afford anymore.

I find myself cocooning more than usual. It's a psychological thing. Everytime I leave the house it costs me
a minimum of $5 in gas.

7. I recently leased a Honda Fit that has a nifty gauge indicating how
many gallons per mile you are using when you accelorate the pedal. I've learned to coast while driving and manage to get 200-230 miles on $20.

15. OH my holy bells...
If I get $20 in gas, that lasts me for two days--and I probably do about 15 miles of in-town driving daily.

I get 30 miles out of that $20 and you get 200+ miles from your $20.

I am total idiot!!!!

3. I remember last year I decided to drive to Virginia Beach for Memorial Day weekend
didn't do anything there - just drove all the way down and over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel.

Gas was around $2.50-$2.75 so it wasn't too bad to do the trip, but this year it just seems way too expensive.

Funny a few weeks ago I thought of driving to West Virginia. It's the only state that touches Pennsylvania (my home state) I haven't visited. Now I might just take the train to NYC.

8. I, too, was pondering the price of fuel today...
We soooo used to take it for granted, cheap gasoline. Gas for mowers, gas for travel; gas was once the cheapest part of car ownership for many (after insurance and major repairs, or sets of tires). Now it rivals rent or the monthly cost of healthcare.

Then I wondered something else:

What if CEOs had to pay for things at prices adjusted for their bloated salaries?

A gallon of milk would cost $1500.00.

A gallon of gas a bit more: $1721.00.

I think maybe CEOs ought to have to feel the pain of the middle class, maybe one day a year, maybe one week.

Or, maybe permanently.

:P

If this doesn't do it, nothing will. It's hurting everyone equally.

Both parties NEED to work on this. Whichever party allies with the pillaging Huns is going to be left in the dust in 2012.

Cheapest is 3.74 at Murphy's.. it's ridiculous and I'm glad Obama is launching an investigation into it. I find it interesting that gas prices didn't start to skyrocket until the GOP took over the House. Kinda makes you wonder.

42. I just spent over $200 on gas - in one day! How you may ask?
Drove over 600 miles ....
In a truck ....
with 4 wheel drive ....
and a hemi (not diesel) ....
with a trailer ....
and a car on the trailer ....

Car cost less than the gas to pick it up!

(I will actually still make money on the deal - I have a hobby/business parting out a certain make of european cars)

Lowest price = $3.69 per gallon in New Market, VA
Highest price = $3.89 in Hagerstown, Md

if Obama nationalized oil, gas, and coal?

If it brought down the prices of these resources and reduced our deficit, I think the American peeps would be shocked and outraged AT FIRST, but the $$ value would change our hearts and minds pretty damned fast.

44. The answer to that is "not at all"
the US imports over half of the oil it uses. When you're reliant on imports, nationalising domestic production won't really do anything to lower prices.
