What would a "trickle-up" economy look like? |
|
We have tried "trickle-down" for almost 3 decades and it has failed miserably. It promised that the wealth would trickle down from the top to the bottom and also promised to balance the budget. It failed on all counts. At least, on all counts presented to the people.
A "trickle-up" economy would put the money in the hands of those at the bottom and it would "trickle-up" to the top. But how would we do that? How could we put more money in the pockets of those that need it the most? Would we raise the minimum wage? Would we give tax credits to those at certain levels of income? Would we have a guaranteed income much like Nixon proposed? Could we use the tax code to incentivize employers to increase the wages of their workers? How would a "trickle-up" economy work and would it not do more to revitalize this weak economy brought about by the trickle-downers?

Raise taxes on the wealthy. Seriously, I think that's all we need to do. That would fund programs that would help those in lower tax brackets.

2. The people at the bottom would spend money |
|
There would be more money in circulation and everyone would benefit. More money at the top does not get spent, you can only buy so many cars and houses, eat so much caviar and drink so much champagne.

3. Well if you gave tax breaks to your wealthiest citizens and scrapped medical payments |
|
You would find that you had a trickle up economy. We've been heading in that direction for awhile now and there are those who would like to take us the rest of the way.

9. I think you are right about the decades |

but I seem to remember it being called the bubble-up economy. I also seem to remember that LBJ’s great society theories put a lot of money into the economy. For the first time, the poor among whom the African Americans comprised a substantial number had money to spend on things like televisions and refrigerators.
