and the crazy thing is that this isn't happening in tornado alley but in a rather hilly area and even in the mountains.

I'm in North Georgia and we have been getting warnings all day. This morning, the tornado sirens were blaring, but there weren't any tornadoes in our area, but farther northwest in Floyd County, which got hit pretty hard. And there is more to come.
