How will southern Republicans react to storm-related emergency Federal spending?
It is early evening, April 27, and the south is being devastated by tornados. Billions in damage; sadly many deaths.

So how will the southern politicians react? There's nothing in the Constitution that says the Federal Government is responsible for cleaning up after a tornado. Everything must be cut and entire agencies should be done away with, that's the constant drum-beat from that part of the country - do you expect to hear it come tomorrow?

My bet is you will see what real hypocrisy looks like by this time tomorrow; every one of them will be howling that the Federal response was too little and too late and that expense should not be an issue. Just watch ...

1. Yeah, but that's different.
I know some right wingers who get food stamps, disability, Medicare, Medicaid, etc... but everyone else on the program is deadbeat.

Seriously. That's how they think.

3. They'll do what they've always done...
They gladly take the money, then denounce it at their next photo-op/town-hall...

5. Or do like Jindal did in Louisiana
Print out a giant check with their signature on it, and take all the credit as if THEY provided the funds.

We on DU will see the hypocrisy, but the rest of the country will be unaware of it. :(

8. Ah, yes...Jindal and the Big Check

The funds included hundreds of thousands of dollars directly from the Recovery Act - at least $157,848 in Community Block Grant money authorized by the Recovery Act and $138,611 for Byrne/JAG job training programs created by the Recovery Act.

7. and we'll see it in the storm aftermath, as well.
...since the majority of Texans are represented by Republicans, they better put their constituents' best interests at heart.
I'm serious.

9. Out here in Okie-hell people were very pissed off that "Obama" (not FEMA, mind you, but they blamed
it on Obama) denied disaster-area coverage for some terrible flooding in our town. Republicans are all against government spending, except when THEY want some help. I really had to bite my tongue when a friend complained about "Obama" not giving him help to repair his severely damaged house - I wanted so badly to say - "But don't you vote Republican, B? And isn't government spending a bad, bad thing?"
But I didn't...
