5. the trick is getting from here to there with Bernie in one piece
the wealthy would probably nuke the whole state of Vermont before they'd let him be president.

15. Anti nuke? yes. Decidedly, not exactly.
the last gov election was largely about Vermont Yankee. the election was extremely close. still today if you ask people, a lot of them don't like it but they want to keep it running for the jobs and cheap power, even though neither of those are actually true.

18. Should've been an option for "Yes, but with apologies to Bernie"
My only qualm in voting Yes was that President Sanders, having to deal with the kind of Congress we normally have, would be going crazy by the end of his first week.

20. There are a whole host of things for which I want or wish that never will happen.
I'm sure that DU could come up with a list of Liberal darlings they would want to be president such as Kucinich, Feingold, Grayson, Weiner, as well as Sanders who have zero chance of ever actually being elected. If I were to wish for something that will never I would aim much higher than having a liberal Liberal as president.

Here's another thought: do not places like the Senate and the House need strong and Liberal leaders who will stand up for progressive ideals? Why do so many believe like those kinds of people should somehow be president, especially when only 1 person can be president at a time?

We need good people everywhere, not just at the top.

23. Good point, but he is more qualified than Obama or most other pols
he has served at all levels of government from Mayor to Congressman to Senator...And the voters of Vermont keep promoting him with huge margins.

He must be doing something right.

However I do agree that we need leaders at all levels and branches. Personally, I would prefer to see him join the Democratic Party and become part of ther Congressional leadership team and kick some butt from the inside.

29. The only trouble is that he would have 0 chance of ever being elected president.
My guess is that the people of Vermont would prefer to keep him as their senator rather than see him overwhelmed by Washington.

30. He migut not be able to at this point, but his views could
It is possible that personally Sanders might have an uphill battle because ofvthe labels that have been put on him (and his self description as a socialist.

However if a candidate who is more in the conventional mold in terms of personal image -- but who ran on the platform of Bernies ideas and total honesty -- and had the backing of the Democratic Party COULD be a strong presidential candidate.

35. Any Democratic presidential candidate who utters the term "socialism" in a positive way
is dead in the water. It plays well with the Liberal left, but it is a dirty word for too many Americans to allow a candidate to be elected president. It's less likely to happen now than ever before and I don't see that improving. Besides, total honesty did not work well for Carter and Mondale got his clock cleaned in the election.

Reality is a harsh mistress.

36. We're experiencing the disastrous results of 30 years of so-called reality.
I'm not saying a Democratic candidate should use the socialist word or go on an electoral kamikaze mission.

But Bernies longstanding success -- and political dominance -- in Vermont shows that his message does resonate with working class people as well as progressives.....There are also plenty of those in Vermont.

Bernies brand of progressive populism would be an effective weapon if the Democratic political class would take their lips off the corporate teat long enough to see the real reality.

42. Fears - we need to fight them!
If we let our fears stop us from doing the right thing, we might as well all jump off the cliff now.

As a nation and a people, we must make those who break our laws pay for their crimes! There is much evidence that we have been lied to about the Kennedy and King assassinations. Let the real investigations begin!

Once the major crimes that are wrecking our country are brought to justice, those who consider doing other such crimes will think twice.
