These People Are Like Rasputin |
|
I THOUGHT that after the whole fiasco in the Gulf, all the "drill, baby, drill" people were hiding their heads in shame. But, oh no. Just like the dandelions in my yard, they're back, and they're EVERYWHERE. Every other post on Facebook starts out with someone innocently complaining about how high gas prices are, and within 3 responses EVERY SINGLE TIME, someone will chime in with the whole "sure makes you wish we had our own oil" crap.
Now, I know the counter-argument to this right-wing talking point cold. I could recite it in my sleep, because I did it so often 2 years ago. And I thought we put this issue to bed.............2 YEARS AGO. But these people just keep multiplying. In the last 3 days, I've smacked down the whole "drill here, drill now" B.S. talking point at least a dozen times. WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP FIGHTING THE SAME DAMN FIGHTS???
I swear, every time you think an issue has been definitively answered and ended, here comes another know-nothing jerk-off claiming that the Earth is flat. Sometimes I think Americans really MIGHT just be too stupid to govern themselves.

1. I wish we did have our own oil |
|
You know, OUR OWN oil, instead of giving it all away to corporations, keeping it under state ownership like they do in civilized countries.
Or better yet, fuck oil. Let's stop using it.

4. for the "drill here more" crowd |
|
we would HAVE to have it placed under state ownership for it to make any difference. Of course, the Republican Tea Party would NEVER allow us to have "Socialized Oil". New oil supplies wouldn't even make it into distribution for years at any rate. Does anybody ever hear anybody on TV mention the fact that oil companies have domestic drilling permits they're not even using or that not all of their refineries are (ever) working at maximum capacity?

7. As far as I've heard, if they drill in the US |
|
the oil gets sold on the world market where it becomes a little black drop in a great big barrel. It will have next to zero effect of oil prices (which is speculation driven anyway) and equally as little to do with eliminating our dependence on foreign oil.

That's why the "drill here, drill now" argument would only make any sense (assuming using oil were actually a good thing that didn't need to be stopped) if we had nationalized oil, if we claimed some sort of ownership of our own national resources. But that would be Commyewnist.

2. I thought that you were referring to birthers |
|
but then again I suppose that you could say the same about any "Fox News Zombie" and any of their "pet" issues of the day/week/month/year. The Republican Tea Party/Fox News "talking points" on ANY given issue NEVER EVER changes! It's aggravating for any sane and rational thinking person. Obama has to be the most disciplined man on the planet to be able to deal directly with the lunacy of the Republican Tea Party/Fox News crowd 24-7-365! I mean, THAT has got to require some SERIOUS anger management skills/discipline. I'm not sure that I could ever do it. I can't listen to 5 sec. of Limbaugh, Hannity, Boortz, et. al without wanting to punch my radio (and I probably would if I didn't realize that it's not my radio's fault and that I shouldn't take it out on my poor, defenseless radio)

3. Using very advanced intelligence against a population. |
|
Does not mean they can not self govern.
It means those that know those techniques need to show them how it is used against them, and bring them with them.
It is very easy to leverage people with the time and money to formulate complex operations against a family working 40plus hours a week and worried about there jobs and families.
Those treating civilians as dumb, are not smarter, they are specialist in the area of those issues used against people.
Almost anyone can learn how they use that against people, but most people don't have the time to think on the issue, not becuase they are dumb, but becuase there thinking is being used at there work and with there families.
It is offensive to say you are smarter when you have millions in think tanks making up plans to attack and spin people that are working to pay for those think tanks when there incomes and work is stolen and moved to consolidations.
They can rule themselves, however they need advocates that care about there dignity, and do not just want to farm them for what they can take.
That pisses me off, when people say they are to dumb, when nobody explains it to them. And they don't have the thousands of hours, nor the focus to figure it out while caring for many loved ones and working in honorable jobs.
You have to bring the population with you, not beat them down and take what they got. Then say it is becuase you are 'smarter'

5. I Appreciate You Points, But............... |
|
..............if the Republican Party announced to all its followers that eating rat poison is good for you, and you saw someone about to dig into a big bowl of rat poison, and you stopped them, gave them a very detailed explanation as to why rat poison is definitely NOT good for you, and told them definitively what would happen if they ate the rat poison, and then, a week later, they were right back in front of that bowl of rat poison, spoon at the ready, ready to dig in..............what would YOU call that person? Smart?

14. I've used the analogy (pardon me, but it's graphic) ... |
|
If a Dem/Liberal or President Obama mentioned to a RW nutjob that the nutjob was about to eat a heaping, steaming plate of fresh shit, the nutjob would argue with him and eat it "with a smile on his/her face", even if they watched it come straight out of Rush Limbaugh's a** ...

Then again, they still haven't sent the beer and travel money that is due, so there is some argument for people not being smart.

...and, like bumper stickers, once in place, these idiots adhere with extreme tenacity, and are very difficult to remove and dispose of.

10. FYI, I Just Totally Smacked Down Another "Driller" |
|
I made the point above about how every drop of oil pumped belongs to the oil corporation that pumps it, which they then sell to the highest bidder. Then I dropped the hammer of, "If we had State-controlled oil like they have in a lot of other countries, all you righties would be screaming 'Socialism!!!'"
The guy I was debating had no comeback for that. He gave me a one-sentence reply, something about, "It's all about global reparations anyway." And that was it.
I haven't had a rightie beat-down so devastatingly thorough that he actually ADMITED defeat and tucked his tail and ran in a while. I LOVE this whole "we should drill our own oil" talking point. It's so easy to crush.

12. I love that talking point as well! |
|
I like to lead them around until they're the one saying then the government should do something about it. Which is when I say something like, yeah, but isn't that what that guy down in Venezuela did? What's his name? Chavez, Chivas something like that, I can never remember. You know, that sounds a lot like what real Socialism is to me. I always want to laugh when I see their face after I say that. I don't though. It's enough just to leave them with some food for thought.

13. This is NOT a supply problem... |
|
...it is the traders at the commodity exchange bidding up the price.
Demand is flat to down, supply is plentiful.
We are being hosed because we must allow the "invisible hand" of Goldman and the rest of the rigged "free market" unfettered control over world commodity prices.
