I have, intentionally, avoided writing about the “birther” issue because it is not worth a mature reader’s time, but the recent, over the top media coverage surrounding President Obama’s “legitimacy” by FOXifiers, Trump, Palin, and Huckalbey along with Trump’s new attack questioning the President’s educational qualifications merit mention because it goes FAR beyond place of birth. It is based on pure, unadulterated, ignorance and racism.
Trump was so proud of himself about the disclosure of the President’s ‘long form’ birth certificate DESPITE the fact that the President disclosed his official Certification of Live Birth BEFORE being elected to the presidency. If Trump, and others like him, knew ANYTHING about what it takes to run for President, they would have known that all SERIOUS presidential candidates go through a tough vetting process including rigorous investigations of issues such as tax, financial disclosures, organizational affiliations and - believe it or not -family and personal issues!
What makes the vetting process so tough is that it is conducted by a number of entities - the political party the candidate represents, the candidate’s political opponents, the media and special interests groups that don’t want the candidate to be President. All of the above vetting agents have far greater intelligence, legal, and financial resources than Trump and others on how to dig up dirt. If there was any LEGTIMATE documentation contradicting ANY of the Presidents’s vetting qualifications, you can bet your bottom dollar that President Obama would never have made it to the Oval Office.
The bottom line is that there is a certain racist element of American society that can’t stand the fact that there is a qualified, intelligent Afro-American in the Oval Office even though that Afro-American is of BI-RACIAL parentage. Nothing will stop these detractors from attacking the President based on legitimacy because they have an Arian view of superiority over any ethnic group other than their own.
The philosopher, Plato, once said, “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” I rest my case.
