Like the previous occupant of his 8 p.m. timeslot -- Keith somebody-or-other -- MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell seems determined to test the limits of how far he can push his corporate masters. On Wednesday, he unleashed an extended tirade against NBC for being coy about its relationship with Donald Trump.
O'Donnell's theory is simple: NBC knows if "The Apprentice" is coming back, which would scotch any discussion of Trump running for president. So he slapped the network around -- for about 15 minutes -- for not announcing, right now, whether the program will be on its schedule next season.
O'Donnell knows a little something about Hollywood. He worked as a producer on "The West Wing" and created the short-lived drama "Mr. Sterling," both for NBC. And he made a point of noting that he also personally knows some of the people at NBC Entertainment currently hiding in their offices.
This isn't the first time O'Donnell has called out the entertainment division. He's done so repeatedly since Trump began his toe-in-the-water approach to running for president, which O'Donnell firmly believes is just a ploy to gain attention.
