I met one of "Them" today...
And frankly I needed to learn this as much as he did...

We are nearly identical in beliefs & concerns...But we blame each other for what we see wrong in the world. At least we do at the surface.

Luckily we shared a hobby so thats where we started. In conversation he blamed Obama for something that he had no control over & I felt compelled to state my view as a "tree hugging liberal". Thats how I described myself to him as I wanted to bust the stereotype. I am a liberal & damn proud about it.

Long story short-after hashing out all our issues-we were pretty much concerned about the same things. I just did my best explaining the lack of a true free market & the exploitation of cheap labor were our true enemies.

But sadly we both agreed neither party had an answer. And no 3rd party stood a chance till a political revolt or revolution occurred.

I am glad to say I busted a stereotype of the died in wool conservative for myself. I grew up in a family of conservatives-the real ones. Nowadays the nut bags get all the coverage. And many well intentioned people are seriously mis-guided by a corporate media that want them that way.

And I hope he went away knowing that liberals were not the enemy.

1. My theory is that the blame game is the wedge being used to keep us separated.
Because as long as we are divided those 400 families when and we stay enslaved.

5. I also believe this true and couple this with the onethatcares' response
I'd say many, many people fit into this category.

All you can do is keep talking, back it up with some info from a nonpartisan source, if it's possible that way they can't say your information source is liburl-biased.

Except for the racists, birthers, neocon lovers, nontaxpayer-wannabe's and Teabaggers, we have much more in common than we realize.

2. Watch out for the formic acid -- and where those six legs land.
I mean, those ants are BIG.

So where did you meet Them? Next to the Los Angeles river?

;-)

3. here's the difference in the learning curve.
if we, those of us on DU and other progressive websites, have a desire to learn about what is happening in the central part of the United States concerning catfish and their breeding grounds, we type it into a search engine, read as much as we can and make a decision as to what we read. Most times the sites visited have varied opinions.

With the "other side", they have faux news non 24/7 blasting that the catfish are fine and are used to eating plutonium for the rest of their lives. End of research. And they get down right testy about it when questioned.

BTW, I made up the catfish thing, but it could be the Presidents birthcertificate, the Affordable HealthCare Act, Social Security, Medicare and countless other topics.

If you don't research what's bugging you, as a member of DU, I hope that you start, just don't limit yourself to left/right readings. You can't form an idea if you don't include both.

Seriously, I haven't seen anything come out of the republican mouths that works for the average citizen, but that might just be me.

6. Not just you!
And I could not possibly agree more with your post!

This becomes quite clear when I debate issues with my TeaBagger cousins. I link a wide range of sources. They link to Rush, Glenn, Faux Gnus, and the links they provide.

We do want most of the same things, and when you can get a conversation going based strictly on the issues, sometimes you can find common ground. Sometimes you just want to scratch your brain with a knitting needle through an eye or ear.
