Economic Reality
The reality is that there is NO actual good news.

None.

There is puffery and cheerleading, smoking and mirroring, spinning and lying.

But NO actual good actual news.

It really does suck, boys and girls. It really does.

2. We're two years into a recovery
Sales are up
Profits are up
Incomes have risen
Unemployment is going down
Stock Market is up
More jobs are available

How can you say there is NO good news? Seriously?

6. Then there is the bad news
We are in three wars.
We have an unsustainable debt.
Gas prices are approaching an all time high
The deficit has to be cut and we have one party that just refuses to raise any taxes.
In the coming election corporations can spend all the money they want to support Republicans.
The right has taken over nearly all of the news media.
How much of that decrease in unemployment is people running out of UI?
Sales are up in upscale stores but down in stores like Walmart.
Inflation is kicking in big time.
Incomes have risen for the rich not for the peasants.

9. I was referring to the OP that stated NO good news
Of course there is good and bad news. I actually think the good still outweighs the bad and am quite bullish on the market and economy for 2011.

17. Unemployment and UI
How much of that decrease in unemployment is people running out of UI?
None. The Unemployment figures don't have anything to do with UI claims.

11. Except that we're running yearly $1.4T deficits.
So when it comes time to paying off our debt, it's going to be that much worse. Or maybe deficits don't matter? And we thought they were huge under Bush.

16. They do matter
but we don't have to pay it off. They are getting close to a tipping point, but probably have a couple more years because borrowing costs are so low right now.

12. Coincidentally, so does oil, corn, beef, and pretty much everything else.

I suppose if I owned an oil well, a farm, or a cattle ranch I might be more optimistic.

4. It's the LIES that bug me the most
even while bemoaning my unemployment and dwindling savings.

Lie after lie after lie.

How stupid do they think we are?

Uh... wait...

7. Aren't we a bucket of sunshine?
Haha generally speaking though, you're right. Unemployment and gas prices overshadow any "good" news.
