mostly Republican strongholds, with tornadoes?
After Haiti was hit with by a devastating earthquake in 2010, killing over 200,000 innocent people, Pat Robertson claimed it was God punishing that country for its “pact with the devil.”
The Texas-based Republican activist Pastor John Hagee famously blamed New Orleans’ devastation by Katrina on “homosexuals.”
Jerry Falwell, in the wake of 9/11, said the attack that killed over 3,000 Americans was God’s way of punishing us for harboring abortionists, feminists, and the ACLU.
And just recently, Glenn Beck said that the earthquakes, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, was God’s rebuke of that country’s behavior.
"I’ll tell you this (said Beck), whether you call it Gaia or whether you call it Jesus, there’s a message being sent. And that is, "Hey you know that stuff we’re doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it."
Elizabeth Hasselbeck (of the view), helpfully served as an Amen Chorus to Beck, adding,
"I believe God speaks to all of us in many ways."
Ok.
Well, the states hit the hardest by the tornadoes are all Republican strongholds: Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia. Surely, that can’t be a coincidence? Can it?
So, is God punishing these conservative states because they’re not taking care of the poor, the elderly and the sick, as Jesus commanded? Could God be angry about all of the lying and cheating of the citizenry and the pushing of policy that continues to hurt the already suffering?
I doubt we’re going to hear Glenn Beck, John Hagee, Rush Limbaugh or any other allegedly religious, right wing conservative share any speculation about this today or at any other time for that matter. I guess in the final analysis, for them, it's "God's will," and "only HE knows the reasons.
On a more serious note, I sincerely hope that all are safe from further harm and send my condolences to all of the victims families and friends. We have sent a donation to the Red Cross to help with your needs.
