Lake Champlain -- the "Sixth Great Lake" -- is flooding; at record high level
With all the attention on the destruction and death in the South, you may not be aware of the severe weather we're having up here in VT.

Rivers in Norther Vermont are at record levels, there is flooding everywhere. And now Lake Champlain itself is flooding.

This amazing video shows highlights from various rivers, including a dramatic rescue of horses.

Lake Champlain’s record-high water levels continued to creep up this afternoon and at 5 p.m. hit 102.14 feet, up from 102.1 feet at noon, according to the National Weather Service in South Burlington.

A flood warning continues on the lake as swollen rivers flow in and as the Champlain Valley mops up from a series of morning and afternoon rainstorms. Between midnight and 5 p.m. today, just under an inch of rain (0.93) came down in sometimes powerful bursts.

The previous known high water mark was set in 1869.

I believe climate change is upon us.

1. Snow melt & rain.
We are looking at a 100 year flood season on the Mississippi River.

3. To hear the climate-change denialists tell it, however, 'it's just weather'
I'll see if this incantation conjures up my personal stalker for a second time.

5. I spend most of my winter in VT...the ice/snow has been incredible.
Even in early April in Southern VT, there were huge ice blocks strewn all over the river beds. That's all just water...and it melts and flows into the rivers which eventually hit us down in Connecticut. The flooding this year has been incredible. We live on a lake in Eastern CT, and it isn't usually filled until mid May (flood control). But this year, the lake as has been full since the beginning of April, and the towns down river have been getting hammered.

There is STILL snow on the ski slopes in Northern Vermont, and it still has to melt. My heart goes out to the Burlington/Lake Champlain residents. They have to deal with "mud season" too!
