Who's awake watching the pre-wedding show waiting for the wedding to begin?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 03:26 AM by Tx4obama
I never watched Diana's or Fergie's so I thought I'd stay up and watch this one - one out of three ain't bad ;)

Edited to add...

1. Watching all this I cant help but think thank god for Thomas Jefferson et al
We may be the world leader in jingoistic nationalism today but every now and then the UK likes to remind the world who wrote the book.

They said on the news earlier tonight that it is excepted that the wedding will bring ONE BILLION dollars into their economy.

All those people camping out overnight and buying souvenirs are spending money. The BBC must be making money, too.

In fact, there are a lot of them and they look pretty damned pleased with the way their money is being spent.

Everything AND Richard Quest. LOVE IT! How long has it been since we've been able to wallow in foolish frivolity, with people hooting and funny hats and smiles everywhere and everyone in a celebratory mood (other than some sports event which wouldn't ever ring my chimes like this stuff does)? So much crap in the news just almost literally pelting all of us. I'm enjoying the hell out of it! It's nice to see everybody smiling and festive and the mood so upbeat. I haven't felt this way since Obama got elected - and all of that great upbeat stuff was of course juxtaposed by hoards of glowering, pouting republi-CON Sore Losermen-in-waiting. This is just fun and festivity and frivolity across-the-board.

Look at the trees inside Westminster Abbey. Can you believe the hats already? And the VIPS aren't even there yet.

Strange black dress that just went in, with white "streamers" or toilet paper or something trailing down below the hem in front. Odd.

Lots of men in tails. London Chamber Orchestra. Oh boy, just announced: Anderson Cooper. :sarcasm:

that I had in college, and I put it on in honor of the occasion. I'm sitting here in bed, working on my laptop and watching CNN in my Rockband t-shirt and ratty pants that I ordinarily sleep in and lots of rhinestones and my crazy hat. Such fun! I'm a sight. No wonder my husband is outside smoking a cigar. He's being very patient. Love the band leader I just saw - with those white spats that go from his feet to his knees!

OMG!!! I'm listening to - who? Piers Morgan? Somebody talking about some young woman
in bright blue - with this VERY strange marquis-diamond-shaped hat on her forehead, one of its points coming down toward the bridge of her nose. And whoever was talking was going on about this aristocrat just having had her nose redone after ruining it with a really bad cocaine habit. ON CNN for all the world to hear! OY! And then the woman with him said maybe she should have just worn the hat down over her nose...

OMG!

I wouldn't miss this for all the bangers and mash at the Kings Head pub in Santa Monica!

OMG did you just hear them carrying on about the Earl Spencer (Diana's brother) - "is that his fourth fiancee there with him?"

OMG!

20. I am. I love all this stuff, the dresses, the hats, the people who
are sleeping on the sidewalk, partying all night last night, wearing all those silly hats and flags and eating and drinking. It's a party for the whole country and they all have tomorrow off so the party can go on all day! Countries need a day off to party every once in while.

The current Prime Minister who was a teenager then, slept out all night in a sleeping bag when Charles and Diana got married, and now he's the PM! He won't have to sleep on the sidewalk this time. I guess he'll be a guest of honor.

Making coffee and getting snacks ready and the puppy is delighted to have someone awake to play with.

I can remember wearing big hats for Easter when I was a girl. We were Catholic and so were supposed to wear something on our heads at Mass. But eventually that rule disappeared and the hats, too. Too bad! I kind of miss them -- at least occasionally, they would be fun. (Now that they don't sell many, they only come in "one size fits all" -- which is too small for me, even if I was brave enough to wear one.)

A nice and fun symbol of fresh starts or hope renewed or something

I am now inspired to go and get a hat!

38. I'm always up at this hour
but do have the tv on msnbc in the background. I watched Diana and Charle's wedding (I was in college) but I think that draw was that Diana and I were the same age. While I had no other responsibilities other than getting good grades, that shy young woman was marrying the future king. It was a beautiful wedding. Didn't watch Fergies wedding but did watch Diana's funeral. I've always been a very early riser so it wasn't a hardship. Looking forward to seeing the dress.

their normal nightly line up Friday evening.
So, I'm watching CNN now and will watch the rerun of MSNBC later tonight.

p.s. They said earlier that the 'two' things that will be the most anticipated and talked about are the 'dress' and 'the kiss'.

Edited to add...

Piers Morgan on CNN is doing a good job of telling us about all the tidbits of gossip regarding all the arriving guests.

51. I really have no idea
why some people feel compelled to sniff haughtily at all this. How many times do you get to see a royal wedding? Great Britain has been our most loyal ally during my lifetime and this isn't costing me a dime. If the Brits don't care, why should I? Meanwhile, I'm watching while posting and texting with my sister about the hats.

46. Well it makes for good tv. It's great pageantry with storybook overtones.
Just don't forget to poke a few holes in the fairytale from time to time.

Today I was thinking about the last time my cousin from the UK was here. He got drunk and tried to throw a pool cue at the portrait of the queen at McMenamins in Portland. Maybe that was just him but based on my own visits I get the feeling quite few Britons share his opinion.

They would serve themselves really well IMO by living like normal people and shocking everybody by having a wedding like this:

Oh what the hell? It just proves you can't have everything. Even if you're the heir to the British throne and handsome as hell and wealthy beyond imagining with a gorgeous new wife and a marriage that may actually last. Maybe it's the Great Leveler.

Mother-of-the-Bride alert! Wearing Catherine Walker - I remember Catherine Walker being one of Diana's favorite designers. Light blue - almost a periwinkle color. She won't piss anybody off today. Very tasteful and elegant. The bishop has a great hat! But then, don't they always?

Piers is really making the commentary 'interesting'.

124. Remember Diana's tiara?
It was large and I'd bet heavy. Princess Catherine's seems so much more comfortable. My impression is that this is definitely not an arranged marriage as was Charles and Diana - this may be a real marriage of love and duty to country, without sacrificing - their sense of self and a partnership of love, duty - but, not duty alone. I'm liking this.

:waving: to Elton!
