Tour Group Fined for Walking Right Up to Old Faithful {stupid human tricks}
http://www.yellowstoneinsider.com/20110429765/news/articles/tour-group-fined-for-walking-right-up-to-old-faithful.php

"You can't protect idiots against themselves: Yellowstone National Park rangers
issued citations Wednesday evening to members of a tour group for walking on the
cone of Old Faithful. UPDATED WITH VIDEO!

A group of 30 or so individals were spotted by a Webcam viewer standing on the cone
of the geyser, snapping photos. The Webcam viewer called the Park, and a ranger was
dispatched to herd the group back to safety. Members of the group told the ranger
they had not seen any of the numerous and prominent signs they walked past which warn
visitors of the dangers found in thermal areas and of the requirement to stay on
boardwalks and designated trails."

1. They were right to fine the tour group leader
He/she should have gotten a larger fine. It is their responsibility.

One reason I don't like tour groups is the people tend to pay attention to the 'guide' or leader rather than observe as much as they would on their own.

Still it's hard to see how all those people missed the signs.

3. I doubt the 'really' missed them
I think they were playing stupid. There are signs everywhere, especially around the geyser.

5. 202-256 degrees shooting up to 185 feet in the air?
Maybe they just wanted to clean their clothes.

The old calvary used it as a laundry but it ruined and tore their wools to sherds back in the olden days..... but of course the soldiers weren't in the clothes

They should have fined every single one of them.

16. I think braised is more accurate. Sauteed implies the use of butter or oil.

29. We were there several yrs before that and my folks were so watchful of us, making sure
no one got off the path. 1 sib did and boy were there words about that. I cannot imagine how it would be, but can imagine how quickly it could happen.

These idiots in the OP could NOT have missed all the signs. There are signs all over now.

14. I'd have no sympathy if they'd been pressure cooked, but the bad part is
their bodies could have plugged up the geyser or altered it in some way.

22. Broken through the thin crust there and spoiled the whole geyser.
Really, really stoooooooooooopid.

I worked a season at a large national park, and it is amazing to see the idiotic things people can do. I lost all sympathy. At one point, the rangers got so frustrated that they printed in the park newspaper, "COMMON SENSE... Don't Leave Home Without It".

When you send your kids up to a moose so you can get a picture, you have gone right over the edge. And that is just the beginning of the stoooooopid that rangers see.

"TOURON"--it's a blend of "tourist" and "moron."
