nothing turns a republican into a socialist quicker than a disaster
"I thank the President for his approval of our much-needed request. This federal declaration will allow Alabamians in the hardest hit counties to immediately begin the recovery process," said (R) Governor Robert Bentley. "

To avoid hypocrisy, if I wanted to get beer and travel money for myself, I would not be doing this.

Would have been easy to get beer and travel money a thousand other ways.

Although beer and travel money will be sent.

They use disasters to milk public sentiment for acting on behalf of the people and make a big show of it.

But yes, help should be given. I just think that the RW/conservo/rethug/baggers are hypocritical liars and opportunists of the worst variety.

29. Either that or milk the government teat for their
rich buddies.

There's only three reasons someone who doesn't BELIEVE in government would want to be IN government. 1) Ideological. They want to dismember it. 2) Graft. They want to steal as much as they can from government for themselves or their rich buddies. Or 3) Both.

it before you leave so that the next guy can't figure out what you did - and don't leave a functioning judicial system in place so that even if they did figure out what you did they can't do anything.

55. help should be given YES BUT NOT IN SILENCE They should be told their Liberal neighbors ARE RIGHT
All too often lefties decide disasters are not the right place or time to preach politics.

We will say "we're all the same" blah blah blah.

That would be fine and dandy if we were dealing with like minded people, but in the South we aren't.

The conservative mindset does NOT change or soften given help, because they have a huge sense of entitlement.

That is why along with any help given huge helpings of "I told you so" "Liberals were right" "Your conservative leaders lied to you" "See the Federal Government is the ONLY agency that is helping."

Our silence an act of solidarity with all the people that suffer there, ends up knocking the legs out from under the liberals living there. Locals who spent their lives to no avail trying to change their leader's deceptive ways.

For aside from sad times like these, there are no other times people otherwise extremely conservative are willing to listen and learn.

By being apolitical we basically forgo an opportunity to talk to them when they are listening, and still stinging from the error of their ways.

We should point out that the liberals in progressives in their community have been proven right, that government is not evil, that a strong social safety net would have prevented all this tragedy, and cost a lot less to boot.

The bottom line is we should talk when they are willing to listen instead of trying to build a bridge to the other side. Every time we try we find it's the bridge to Gretna, LA. . Once they are back on their feet the help is forgotten and our liberal ideals are no longer welcome.

Even worse they never find out the reason they get helped, because we refuse to explain the recovery effort the government makes grows out of liberal/progressive beliefs. Not taking aggressive credit means people like Bobby Jindel can jump in and take the credit. He's done that repeatedly (stimulus funds for example he denounced, but when the check came he claimed credit for getting them sent to his state).

This has to stop, especially since for them they clearly relish disasters that fall on the other side, and make endless judgments that its God's effort to punish us for our evil ways.

We should always make a point of telling the local liberals and progressives how right they were and are, and join them in taking these sad opportunities to make it crystal clear the conservative ways they've followed are the ones that let them down.

50. I think any one should get help that can prove they were never
registered as a Republican after 1980. If they have been a worshiper of "Saint" Ronnie for the last 31 years or voted for the shrub or McCain they can "pull themselves up by their bootstraps". If they don't have any boots, I don't want to "corrupt" their core beliefs by giving them any hand outs from the "evil" federal government. "THAT'S SOCIALISM DAMN IT!" They want the feds out of state affairs don't they? After all that is what they voted for. That is what they wanted. I totally respect their right to not only be totally free but their right to be willfully ignorant dumb asses. Here's your freedom, righties. Live it, love it, embrace it. SORRY ABOUT YOUR DAMN LUCK.

8. New Jersey just suffered record flooding and our request was denied
We have enough money to handle our own catastrophes we're told. Now we'll be sending money to states that refuse to pay their own way. So we here in New Jersey have the nation's highest property taxes because we get about sixty cents back on our federal tax dollars while other states get over $2 back for their federal tax dollar.

THIS IS SOCIALISM. REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. YET THE MORONS YELLING ABOUT BEING OVERTAXED ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO TAKE TAX DOLLARS FROM THOSE OF US WHO PAY THE HIGHEST PROPERTY TAXES IN THE NATION TO MAKE UP FOR THE REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH, THE SOCIALISM THAT THEY DECRY.

24. Yes, state property taxes. Or more accurately
Local, county, and school taxes which are influenced by state aid which is influenced by federal aid which we get far too little of in comparison to the amount we remit to the federal government.

And with Governor Lard Ass in Trenton, who gave tax cuts to millionaires while cutting all property tax relief, while losing hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding through screwing up New Jersey's Race to the Top application ($400 million) and having to pay $261 million back to the transportation department for killing the ARC tunnel. And that's only a partial list. And that amount is after the 60 cents per dollar of federal taxes New Jersey gets back. So all that money Governor Lard Ass lost is ON TOP of the lowest return in federal tax dollars in the nation ON TOP of the highest property taxes.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2712487/posts

It seems every time someone on DU posts something pointing out that the "South" deserves to live by that "pull yourself up by your 'bootstrappiness'" political philosophy they ALWAYS USE TO ELECT REPUBLICAN ASS-PICKLES TO POWER, some Southern DUer's get extremely indignant about folks pointing out and highlighting the hypocrisy.

Fuckers will smile and be nice as hell to President Obama when they are asking for and need help, and then tomorrow, the "ass-hats" will pass a law to ensure he has to "show his papers", or they'll pass a law to make it harder for their Democratic leaning citizens to vote.

Hell, even when the President is there to offer comfort and help, they smear him because he takes a lighthearted moment concerning a wasp.

Can you understand why there is a strong desire to tell these people, and the Texas Governor who wants to secede to; "call your fucking Koch brother bitches to pay for rebuilding your state"!

Tea baggers/conservatives are only sociopathic when other people are affected by plutocracy/deregulation. Once it hits them they turn into progressives.

I've seen it in family members and friends several times, esp on health care. people go from opposing 'socialized medicine' to supporting medicare for all once they get sick or have kids. I know teabaggers who wouldn't ever give up their medicare and SS. Conservatives who turned liberal after deregulation destroyed their land. etc.

68. Maybe we should let the market dictate the solution
after all, government is never the solution.

Miserable hypocrite.

They sure son't mind socialism when they drive on public roads. There should be a pic of a wingnut next to the word hypocrite in the dictionary.

70. Republican club in Alabama rails against 9/11 Zadroga health bill
Socialism!

Wonder if these fine Republicans oppose federal aid for their injured, or just those in NYC?

74. I just always thought we shared our troubles in bad times
because that was the decent thing to do. I never thought of it as socialism, just as many Christians never thought of Christ that way when clearly he was. Socialism is cooperation in order to reach common goals and is human nature. Honestly. You wouldn't think we'd ever have to defend that idea.

77. Along with Medicare, business subsidies, and Social Security
The rule of thumb for conservatives seems to be "Do I pay in more than I can take?". If so, they hate it. Rush Limbaugh for instance, hates SS because if he lives to be 100 (heaven forbid), he'll never collect what he paid in. Workaday Republicans love it because they know it feathers their retirement bed.

Conservative states like Alabama don't want to help fund "Obamacare" because it distributes the money nationally, but when other states have to kick in to bail them out, it's a given.

Punch down is the conservative motto. Kick the people below you to ensure your place in society.
