Ohio Budget amendment would allow sixth state prison to be run privately

A state youth prison in Scioto County slated to close later this year would be sold or leased to a private operator, under an Ohio House budget proposal.

It would be the sixth state prison to be sold.

An amendment to the budget under consideration by the Ohio House Finance Committee would permit sale or lease of the Ohio River Valley Juvenile Correctional Facility in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, to an unspecified buyer. The amendment indicates it could be operated as facility for juvenile or adult offenders.
