Why are they dressed in camos?
Private security guards patrol all sorts of facilities. Our six o'clock nooz will be doing a special report on what it is like inside a local nuke plant. The teevee promo for the report, clearly intended to convey the notion that the site is highly secure, showed a pair of armed security guards with automatic rifles on slings, black vests, and camos.

What's with the camos?

Really?

I've noticed a lot of people in camos, where the camos serve no purpose, or if it does, the purpose is lost to me. Why, for example, would an urban police SWAT team need camos?

6. I think something like that...
I thought the idea with security was to be seen, so as to discourage trespassers.

3. Intimidation
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 05:10 PM by Xithras
People generally disrespect rent-a-cops and private security firms. On the other hand, most people are afraid to tangle with an armed soldier.

By putting the private security in camos, you convey the impression that they're soldiers, and that they'll respond to threats like soldiers.

When it comes to nuke plants, this is probably a good thing. They SHOULD be an intimidating obstacle to potential intruders.

4. There's a lot of vegetation inside of nuclear plants. Triple canopy.
Makes it easier to ambush the flying monkeys that might get over the wire.

5. It's a selling point for the employer.

"The job pays minimum wage but you get to carry a rifle and wear camos."

"Hey. I'll take it. Where do I sign?"

7. I was outside Perry plant in Ohio last November and was not a single guard at the gate. It was open.
No one would have too hard of a time sabotaging the place with no freaking security to be seen!

Camo is another way to indoctrinate our children and grandchildren into a military mindset, imho. Look at kids clothing these days, even camo for babies and toddlers.

9. What else would they wear? Gray granite to match the walls or pastels?
They might as well blend in with the potted plants. It's much better looking.

13. they think it makes them look badass.
Really, they wear it for the same reason I always see fat, pasty-faced 55 year old white men wear camo; it's compensation for their essential suburban wimpiness.
