Anybody else just moderately interested in the royal wedding?
Edited on Fri Apr-29-11 05:56 PM by Brigid
You know -- don't hate Will and Kate, wish them well, think her dress was lovely and he looked handsome in his uniform, thought it was cute when they kissed on the balcony; but that's about it. I didn't get up early to watch it; just looked at the pics later. Anybody else?

5. The way I see it, the future King William V has just one power left
During new elections, if the MPs are unable to choose a new Prime Minister to organize the new Parliament within a given time, the Crown reserves for itself the right to choose its own Prime Minister without needing approval or permission from anyone.

Queen Elizabeth II came very close to exercising this authority during the last elections for Parliament, but they were able to make a few deals and seat a new PM before time ran out.

Aside from that, the future King William's duties are pretty much ceremonial - he'd even have to sign his own death warrant if the Prime Minister brought it to him. But it's really cushy work if you can get it.

My best to William and Kate for a long and happy marriage.

9. his task is still to sire sons
And hers to be fertile and bear them.

That was Diana's task. And that's why Charles could not marry the woman he loved. Had to have a good breeder like Diana turned out to be.

8. Exactly!
It harkens to the princess industrial complex somehow. I guess I just don't live through people that way, or hold them in the regard that was done years ago. I wish them well, they seem to be a lovely couple, they will one day be King and Queen and so what? Alot of women I know were having slumber parties... maybe its like people are saying they just need an escape. When I heard that billions were watching it was like... I'm already stumped like that about sports, like why?

I heard a Texas woman call the wedding "the Super Bowl for women"
Many women obsess over the dress, the kiss, ring, and the carriage the same way many men obsess over the punt return, the interception, the bad penalty call, and the touchdown. Hey, it brings people together, which I don't see as being a bad thing.

10. I'm just happy that this is the second royal generation marrying outside their narrow bloodlines
There for awhile, the royals were becoming seriously inbred. Now we've got two generations who have married completely outside the family, always a good thing.

Other than that, I'm happy for the couple, thought that is was a wonderful spectacle, though spending millions on a wedding is kind of tacky, to say the least.
