Go Jack go!!!
"NDP surge puts Conservative majority at risk as Liberals collapse"

OTTAWA — Jack Layton's New Democrats are charging hard to the finish line of the federal election campaign, setting up a white-knuckle final weekend of getting out the vote that will determine the balance of power in Canada's next Parliament, according to results of the latest poll.

The NDP has pulled within striking distance of the Conservatives, and could dash Stephen Harper's hopes of winning a Conservative majority on Monday. Meanwhile, Michael Ignatieff's Liberals are facing a collapse that would see them fall to their lowest level of support in party history.

If an election were held tomorrow, the Conservatives would command 38 per cent in support, down five percentage points from a week ago, according to results of an Ipsos Reid poll commissioned by Postmedia News and Global National. The NDP would claim 33 per cent support, up nine points in the last week. The Liberals have dropped three more points and now sit at 18 per cent. The Green party sits at four per cent nationally, unchanged from a week ago.

1. New Democrats?
Is that like a Canadian DLC?

What was the matter with the old Democrats?

5. Perhaps they found themselves in the untenable position of trying to raise millions
from corporate interests who expect their money to bring definite & steady results, while purporting to represent the interest average working Canuck? Maybe their voting base finally got wise to the ever widening discrepancy between what the party said it stood for, and what it actually did with whatever power was given it? Maybe it shaded so close to the conservative party that it was suddenly burned up, and a New Democratic Party arose from its ashes?

... of the major Canadian political parties (if you exclude the Greens).

In the US, they would fit into the left-wing of the Democratic Party.
