Why isn't oil regulated like a public utility? |
|
I'm curious because oil companies drill on public lands and get government subsidies.

4. Because that wouldn't transfer wealth into private holdings. |
|
Public regulation seems to be against our cultural ethos for some reason.

5. A perfectly good question. |

A little too good apparently to be taken very seriously.

8. In Nova Scotia prices are regulated... |
|
And you DON'T want them to be! Trust me!
Gas has sky-rocketed here because of it, gas almost never goes down now, when it does go down it's never what it should be and it's driven many right out of business because they can't be competitive.
Gas here is almost $5.60/G and will reach that when prices are reset next Thursday.
Unregulated gas prices have large fluxuations, but regulated gas typically only goes in one direction.

9. Why are they drilling OUR oil and paying royalties that are HALF what the Norwegians get... |
|
...are the Norwegians that much better negotiators than Americans?
Why don't we just nationalize the industry? The price of a gallon of gas in Venezuela is $0.12. No wonder they consider their quality of life so much better than we consider ours.

10. Because both parties are against regulations and believe their |

principle role now is to support corporate interests. They all now believe that serving corporate interests serves the public good. That belief is butteressed as corporations fund their political future.
