Why is The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch Help Line in New Hampshire?
Recently, I sent an emailed Letter to the editor (LTTE) , to The (Columbus Ohio) Dispatch (TCD). Of course, I have not received a reply.....duuuuh!

My question was why TCD has their help desk located in Manchester, New Hampshire, and why this job is not located in Columbus, Ohio.

Today, I again called help desk at TCD , to report a missed daily delivery. I wanted to confirm the "help desk" location.
I spoke with "Jerry". He confirmed his location is Manchester, New Hampshire.

I believe we should send a LTTE and ask why this job is not in Columbus. Ohio.
Challenge TCD to PRINT a reply.

1. Lots of call centers up here in northern New England...
...relatively well-educated work force, with little prospect of better employment, and a good telecom infrastructure in place.

Fifteen, twenty years ago, all the English-language help desks for Euro-conglomerates were in Ireland for the same reason.

2. Back-office workers are locally disposable.
Technology makes it possible to send these jobs where ever desperate corps can find desperate workers/contractors who will work for less pay and benefits. Was the help desk person ESL? Perhaps Jerry has been instructed to tell callers his location was in the US; perhaps, he was even telling the truth or, perhaps, "Jerry" was really a farmed VISA-holding ESL???

I recently lost my on-site back-office Columbus, OH job to a company who claims to employee American persons in CN. Well, perhaps they do or perhaps only management is located in CN and they actually send the work off-shore. All I know is that the work product which apparently went through not one but two proofreaders produced an inferior product and this inferior product was satisfactory to those ultimately responsible for its content, the better to ensure their own lucrative earnings, at the expense of their own local citizenry and/or possibly the well-being of those whose well-being might depend on a product that was timely and accurate. Oh heck, even saying that is a mythology, as so much relevant information can be so redundantly collected at each step in the process.

Desks and phone banks can appear and disappear quickly, and back-office support isn't seen as committed 1) To making money for the coporation or 2)retaining satisfactory relations with customers and clients. Take it or leave it. Either way, these parasite corporations no longer make money from their product but from other corps trying their damnest to sell/market, and all that entails, their own poorly made product(s).
